How would you pronounce?

What do you think of it as name?

Priss-ay-ah. Doesn't sound nice to me. Too much like piss/prissy. Sorry.

bugsybill · 26/06/2013 01:42

I want to find a name that I can shorten to Pris. Dislike Priscilla.

MoetEtPantsOn · 26/06/2013 01:52

Caprice?

MrsVJDay · 26/06/2013 02:01

Sorry, not good

MeerkatMerkin · 26/06/2013 02:08

Prisca?
Priya?
Primrose?

roundtheback · 26/06/2013 02:18

It's not a name. The only actual name that can be shortened to Pris is Priscilla.

You could make up something along the lines of
Prisina/Priseena
Prissie
Caprice works at a push.

nooka · 26/06/2013 07:16

Makes me think not just prissy, but prissier.

Sorry, but I think it's really not good. I wouldn't like to be called Prissea and wouldn't immediately recognise it as a name.

But then I don't like either Priscilla or Pris.

CoolaSchmoola · 26/06/2013 07:26

I think you need to be aware of what other children may differ with your name choice.

If you go with Pris then I think you are pretty much guaranteeing your DD goes through school hearing 'Pissy Prissy' on a daily basis. It's just too close and IMO would invite bullying.

Aetae · 26/06/2013 07:29

I'd pronounce it prissy. Or prissier. Neither is great, considering urbandictionary's take on the definition.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 26/06/2013 07:30

Sounds like piss.

AllegraLilac · 26/06/2013 11:49

You shouldn't want to shorten to Priss. Priss has terrible connotations for a girls name.

prissy [ˈprɪsɪ]

fussy and prim, esp in a prudish way

AuntieStella · 26/06/2013 11:51

It can be read as "prissier" which is not good, and would interfere, even if your chosen pronunciation was priss-ay-yah.

AuntieStella · 26/06/2013 11:52

Might Primrose shorten to Pris?

SoupDragon · 26/06/2013 12:00

Why on earth would you want to shorten a name to Pris? It is utterly dreadful with it being close to Piss and Prissy.

SoupDragon · 26/06/2013 12:02

Felicity/Fliss is better.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 26/06/2013 12:02

What Soupy said.

squoosh · 26/06/2013 12:26

No.

That's all.

Pasiphae · 26/06/2013 12:43

I do know a Prisca, but she would never accept Priss as a nickname.
Pree-seh-a?

NowPlayingZone · 26/06/2013 17:52

Huh?

No.

KittenofDoom · 26/06/2013 18:13

Really unpleasant, all of it, sorry.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/06/2013 19:05

Priss-ay-ah

Turniptwirl · 26/06/2013 20:23

No

I would expect the child to be a spoilt girly girl brat
