Mourning for the names I would never be brave enough to use ...

It turns out I am quite conventional really and I don't like standing out from the pack.

So, the names I have chosen for my 2 dc are nice, not overly popular but not outrageous. This means that names I have loved since a child, I will never be able to use, so now I'm pg with dc3 I'm mourning them as we have chosen another conventional (but lovely) name.

So bye to:

Anoushka
Primrose
Arrietty

Do you have any names you were not brave enough to use?

bulletwithbutterflywings · 24/06/2013 13:33

Lorelei is pronounced Laurel-eye.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 24/06/2013 13:52

Bertie (Albert)
Finn
Teddy (Edward)
Huckleberry

Nancy
Eliza
Beatrice
Mildred
Tabitha
Merewyn

...and many more...
they're mainly names that are too 'safe' or over used, and a couple even I consider a bit much with our long surname

Saw a gorgeous little boy on tv years ago called Elvis it suited him so much, I'd love to use it if I had the nerve! Expecting DC3 (have 2DD's with "safe/nice" names) I might keep mentioning it to DH, might be able to convince him that it's his fab idea Grin

dubstarr73 · 24/06/2013 15:25

There was a Lorelei in my lass back in the 80s we thought it was really exotic name

troublelovesme · 24/06/2013 16:46

Cassius and Yannis - OH says no anyway otherwise I would've used them Sad
Also Otto and Sonny but that is due to our surname "Hatton" - Otto Hatton has too many Ts, bit of a mouthful. Sonny Hatton would get bullied - Sonny's got his Hatton Blush

MissTweed · 24/06/2013 18:52

Arrietty and hermione - wouldn't be able to use either for obvious reasons!!

JoyMachine · 24/06/2013 18:55

I was brave enough- you only live once! (and they all have classic, British 2nd names if they hate them when they're older).

VisualiseAHorse · 24/06/2013 18:59

Primrose is GORGEOUS! I may steal that if OH lets me have another baby.

Euphemia is the name I mourn.

squoosh · 24/06/2013 19:19

Pomroy and Algernon! Grin

Praise the Lord you weren't brave enough to use them. Your offspring will thank you.

AllSWornOut · 24/06/2013 19:46

Some of you should move to abroad, loads of these names would be perfectly acceptable in France or Germany.

I'm currently trying to decide if I'm brave enough to use Inigo if next DC is a boy.

squoosh · 24/06/2013 19:47

As long as his surname isn't Montoya I say go for it!
