WDYT?

Thinking of this for (potential) DD2. Not too popular, works in all our languages...

Any odd English associations I should know about?

Thanks

I am not a fan, reminds me of old ladies and the film pretty woman Blush

AnotherLovelyCupOfCoffee · 20/06/2013 19:14

I love it! but I think Vivien looks best.

VBisme · 20/06/2013 19:15

I like it, unusual, but not out there.

Wildwaterfalls · 20/06/2013 20:36

Thanks! It's growing on me.

Hadn't thought about pretty woman

I prefer Vivienne but actually really like it, can't think of any negative associations, and think Vivi is a nice nn. I wouldn't be at all bothered about pretty woman!

superbagpuss · 20/06/2013 21:13

Ade Edmondson from the young ones TV show
not a great thing to be linked with

rockybalboa · 20/06/2013 21:17

Isn't Vivian (with an a rather than Vivien) the male version? Like Lesley and Leslie.

rockybalboa · 20/06/2013 21:17

Actually Vivienne is a lovely spelling of it, French maybe?

Wildwaterfalls · 20/06/2013 21:27

Vivian is how we would spell it in Holland. Is it the male spelling here?? That would be an issue

I love it! I always think of Vivien Leigh. Not keen on Vivienne - bit flowery.

I like the Vivian spelling for a girl too - can't see it coming back as a boy's name tbh.

bugsybill · 20/06/2013 23:07

I like it. Was a great aunts name and she said it was the best thing her parents did! She loved her name and also went by vivi, viv sometimes.

If the spelling Vivian is typical in holland then go with that. I have heard it is a boys name on mumsnet but never in real life and it seems to feminine to be male. I really don't think there will be many male vivians in the future so it won't be a problem anyway.

AdiosMuffinTop · 21/06/2013 22:32

No man would be called it now. It's like Meredith or Lyndsay. It was a man's name but it isn't now.

Vivien still looks best to me though, feminine but not too feminine. like Vivienne. That's too much.

AdiosMuffinTop · 21/06/2013 22:32

I mean no baby would be named that now.

CruCru · 22/06/2013 14:08

Vivian is a nice name. Not too popular which is nice.

Wildwaterfalls · 22/06/2013 22:26

Thanks all. It's made its way to the top of our list Smile

I like it, but would spell it Vivienne. Nice!

TheCheeseAlarm · 22/06/2013 22:38

It's DS2's middle name. I love it for boy or girl.

Vivien Leigh's name was originally spelled Vivian. Ade Edmondson's in the Young Ones is spellled Vyvyan like Oscar Wilde's son.

It's a brilliant name.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/06/2013 18:20

I do know a male Vivian in his 20's but struggle to imagine a little boy being named it now.

As another poster said it's like Meredith. Never coming back as a male name.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/06/2013 18:21

Oops posted to soon!

I like it spelled Vivian or Vivien.
