I know an Eben and he is always having to correct and spell his name for people - they usually say/write Evan, Ewan, Ben, pronounce it EE-Ben etc...

So I would not chose it just cos noone ever gets it right!

I know 2 Eben's, one Aussie and one is South African.

They both pronounce their names differently - one says "Ai-ben/Ebben" and the other "Ee-ben".

They like their names but do find it really difficult for people to get it right.

Short for Ebenezer isn't it? So should be Ebb-ben.

Nice name could be annoying to correct people but it's a short name to spell and if he really gets annoyed later he can just call himself Ben.

I think it might be a bit of a pain to live with (sorry), but like e-mail or e-reader, I think it will become e-Ben.

I know one Eben. She is a girl. I was told it's a Kabbalah name. I think male or female they'll always be lumberedwith correcting people.

I really like Eben. It's a name I would consider using myself. I agree with loler - I would pronounce it Ebb-ben, and I believed it started out as a short form of Ebenezer. I usually shy away from names that are diminutives or nicknames for other names, but in this case I would just use Eben rather than Ebenezer.

Lots of Ebens and Ebans here in Wales. I love it.

KLou1105 · 26/06/2013 22:40

My DH nephew is called eben nathaniel and I think it's lovely x

EssexWelsh · 26/06/2013 22:45

My nephew is Ebon, fab name, fab kid! He has no issues with it. Also in Wales, only problem he has is my grandmother calling him Eb-ON, really emphasising the 2nd part which he hates!

Go for it, who cares if it's occasional misspelt, rather that than being in a class with 3 of them Smile

cheekbyjowl · 26/06/2013 23:07

this is my favourite name - i love how it sounds - but most people i mention it to don't believe it's a name at all and my DH abhors it - but i'll persist!

cheekbyjowl · 26/06/2013 23:11

oh and i think it's hebrew for 'Rock'
