I like Sebastian but as its quite long what does it tend to be shortened to? Seb?

I suggested it to my DH actually as I love the name, he said it could be shortened to Seb, which he actually seemed quite keen on (which is rare with my DH he is very picky haha!). As it happens I'm unfortunately like my mother in that I don't want my child's name shortened (something she made rather awkward while i was growing up) so we are still at the drawing board Grin.

I knew a Sebastian when I was growing up - known as Basty!

Btw, there are at least 4 Sebastians at our local nursery.

CruCru · 16/06/2013 09:32

I love this but DH wasn't so keen.

I adore this name but DH vetoed. Seb is the usual, (I love 'Seb' - it makes me think of very cool French guys!), but I know of 2 men who are known as Bastien. They're both continental European, so maybe it's more usual there? Great name anyway. I prefer the spelling Sebastien to Sebastian. Smile

Really like Sebastien. I knew a Seb but we did call him 'Sebaceous Gland'. Blush
Bastien is good.

Wishfulmakeupping · 16/06/2013 12:04

Love it love Seb as a nn too

ImaginaryHat · 16/06/2013 12:17

The Sebastian on the tv show Revolution is sometimes called Bass, I'd not heard that before. I love it in all of its forms!

Thanks, I love it too and work with babies haven't heard any recently that I can think of.
Dh suggested it which is unusual!

Spanish Sebastian I know is called Saber.
Think Sebastian is a nice strong name.

Christelle2207 · 17/06/2013 13:07

We know a little Sebastian and he is known as Sebby. I suspect as he gets older though he'll be more of a Seb.

poppydaisy · 17/06/2013 13:18

Sebastian is nice but I dislike the nicknames Seb/Sebby/Basty. Seb reminds me of sebacious - oily.

squoosh · 17/06/2013 14:15

Seb makes me think of grease too.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/06/2013 14:19

I like the name Sebastian so much that I called my first hamster it!

tammytoby · 17/06/2013 15:11

Seb/Sebbie is so weak and oily sounding, sorry. Not very masculine imo.

Sebastian is nice though. Or how about just Bastian?

ShabbyButNotChic · 17/06/2013 16:54

I work in childcare and currently have a sebastien, mainly known as bastien or bass/bassy by other children. I really like it, it sounds like a good solid name, with plenty of nn possibilities :)

ShabbyButNotChic · 17/06/2013 16:55

Ooh just noticed im spelling it bastiEn and others are bastiAn. Did his parents spell it wrong or are there two spellings?

Layl77 · 17/06/2013 20:00

There are two spellings!
