Kirsten (with Kitty/Kit as nn) seems to be one of the few names that dh and I can agree on for dd2 (dc4), due in just over 6 weeks. Any thoughts? We generally like fairly unusual but not too wacky names and our surname begins with A. Other possibilities we've considered are Anya, Estelle, Camille and Dulcie, but at the moment Kirsten is the front runner...

Love it Smile

Alyssa, enara anya? Really like Kirsten

BreathingLessons · 14/06/2013 10:11

I like it. It's a strong name. Haven't heard of a single other baby named Kirsten. She could use Kirsty or Kirin or Kira if she wanted to, although the fashion for cutesy, very feminine names is coming to an end now really. I do like Estelle and Anya too though. Kirsten Anya would work.

I know a 3yr old Kirsten. Not a pretty sounding name in my opinion. Little girl is very pretty and heard several people say its a shame about her name.

BlueChampagne · 14/06/2013 12:38

Kirsten is good. Also in the unusual but not whacky category (I hope):

Meredith
Rhiannon
Meryl
Tamsin

In the more unusual, but yes-it-is-a-real-name: Vashti

Mintyy · 14/06/2013 12:39

Love Kirsten. But also love Anya and Estelle too. Some fab names there.

lljkk · 14/06/2013 13:02

I dislike Kitty as nn, but Kirsten is fine.

Fairydogmother · 14/06/2013 13:05

my niece is called Kirsten so I like it a lot Grin

bugsybill · 14/06/2013 13:07

I like it but I dont think Kitty is a intuitive nn. But if she was introduced as Kirsten but called Kitty from the start then that would be no problem imo.

Do you like Kirsty and Kirst as nn as they may be more likely if nn were to form naturally.

I have to say I am really surprised that people said that about the name blueblizz I think it would really suit a pretty girl.

AllegraLilac · 14/06/2013 13:16

I hate Kirsten, but love Kristen. Have no really answer as to why.

pinkpip100 · 14/06/2013 14:54

Thanks for your replies...not totally keen on Kirsty as a nickname, so we may have to work on getting it shortened to Kit/Kitty instead. Also some lovely alternatives suggestions, may need to have another 'name' discussion tonight!

Anya is my favourite out your list of names. A variation of this that I like is Hania. Kirsten is nice, not too common either but I would probably choose to put another e in it and make it Kirsteen! :-)

DramaAlpaca · 14/06/2013 17:28

I was just going to suggest Kirsteen as well.

TotallyEggFlipped · 14/06/2013 21:19

I prefer Kristin. The one I know is sometimes known as Kris.

KateCroydon · 14/06/2013 21:24

Love it. It's not cutesy and thank goodness for that.

mosuzu · 14/06/2013 21:39

Like it, good strong name. Also like Anya and Estelle from your list.

dinnersinthedawg · 15/06/2013 07:52

I went to school with a girl called Kirsten - she was occasionally called Kirst but never Kirsty so in my experience I wouldn't let that possible nn put you off.

GW297 · 15/06/2013 10:39

Like it!

TiaMaria13 · 15/06/2013 22:30

I really like Kirsten, pretty and feminine but not overly cute. I have a friend who we call Kirst, I would never think of calling her Kirsty as an nn though.

CitizenOscar · 15/06/2013 22:45

I like Kirsten, reminds me of The OC (married to Sandy Cohen & it doesn't get much better than that Wink).

NigellasGuest · 15/06/2013 22:58

I like Kirsten and Kristin
