Baby boys name?? Help!

I'm really struggling to pick a name for our baby boy due in july. We have a short list but don't want anything that's too popular but also something that isnt going to be too faddy either.
The names we have so far are.... Spencer, Lachlan or Carson

What do you think? Any other suggestions?

I prefer Spencer from your list. What about?
Fraser
Niall
Gene
Perry

Love Carson! Great strong underused name.

Elquota · 07/06/2013 09:14

I like Carson best of those.

Harvey
Ciaran
Elliot
Ethan
Lennox
Harrison
Aidan
Tristan
Seth

I know a 6 month old carson and think its a lovely name, he was going to be carter/henry for the whole pregnancy, then they got bored of them and he had no name for the first week. Carson was a spur of the moment name and now he couldnt possibly be anything else.

fanjodisfunction · 07/06/2013 10:58

Love lachlan.

Its on our list, also Lochlann.

We also like Fraser, Brae, Taran we are going for a scottish name.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 07/06/2013 11:25

Carson is not one I've seen much on here, what a refreshing change.

bananaramma · 07/06/2013 12:44

How do you pronounce Lachlan?

I agree that Carson is a great name and a refreshing change from all the cutesy alfie/archie type names so trendy at the moment.

notso · 07/06/2013 13:02

Lachlan by a long way,

then Carson, but not really keen.

Spencer just reminds me of "Ooh Betty".

BlueChampagne · 07/06/2013 13:03

I love Lachlan, but it would have been silly with our surname.

LouC23 · 08/06/2013 00:56

Thanks heaps for all the responses, it's been a great help. I do love Carson but wasn't sure as its not one you hear a lot. And i dont want it to be one of those faddy names. Its my hubbys fav of the 3. Lachlan or Lachlann is next as its a good Scottish name. I'm tied between them all but def feeling Carson could be in the lead!

I do like Harvey which was on our list and I did like Lennox or lennon, my doc is called Len so he'd be over the moon if we named him Lennox!

What do you think possible nicknames would be for Carson?

Lachlan is a great name!

LoganMummy · 08/06/2013 01:13

I love Lachlan - it was on our Shortlist as well as Ruairidh, Cameron and Coire

Presume nickname for Carson is Carrie.

Strokethefurrywall · 08/06/2013 01:22

This thread has made me laugh:

DS is Carter but if I'd had my way he would have been Lachlan! DBro is Spencer and DH is Fraser!

I'm still pushing for Lachlan for the next one but DH thinks it's a bit meh, damn him! Seeing as he was the one that suggested Carter, I'm going to put forth Lachlan again and stamp my feet Grin

Funny how some people just love the same names huh?

LouC23 · 08/06/2013 03:03

I do LOVE Ruairidh and it was on my list. I'm currently living in Australia and the poor Kid would be forever spelling it. Plus the Australians don't pronounce R's the same as we do in the uk so we put that further down the list :-(

I've always had a soft spot for Spencer, although it's not one I'd ever use personally. I do like Lachlan but I think Carson sounds really hard.

Can't think of any likely nns for Carson except Car or Carl/Carly (just because Carsy sounds stupid and 'karzee' (toilet)).

LanternGirl · 08/06/2013 15:49

Lachlan is nice.
Don't like Spencer, and Carson is awful. Sorry.
Cameron?

juneau · 08/06/2013 15:53

Carson reminds me of the butler in Downton Abbey.

I quite like Lachlan, but isn't it v. popular in Australia? I know of two little Lachlans with Aussie parents.

I went out with a Spencer once - he was a bit thick, TBH, so that's what that name reminds me of. I like Cameron or what about Campbell?

apatchylass · 08/06/2013 16:00

Love Lachlan. Great name. Not so keen on Carson (sounds a bit American red neck to me) or Spenser (knew a weird and not very nice Spenser, so that puts me off. The name itself is fine.

Love Ruaridh too. You could spell it Ruari to make it easier on him.

On the Scottish theme:
Callum
Cameron
Prentis

or

Reuben
Kieran
Aaron

None of these beat Lachlan for me. It's such a fantastic name, I think you should go for it.

Bowlersarm · 08/06/2013 16:01

Austin?

BlueChampagne · 08/06/2013 22:25

Conrad
Wreford
Alasdair

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 08/06/2013 22:36

Carson is quite an understated name. Best out of the 3. Spencer for a second name sounds nice, but not so much for a first name IMO.

Out of the other names people have mentioned I think the best are:

Callum, Kieran and Aiden.
