What do you think of this? I like it but wonder

  • if it is a bit too popular
  • people will think of Hitler's girlfriend
  • whether people calling her Evie will make me cross.

Getting more and more popular round here, esp as an alternative to Evie. Had never thought of it in terms of Eva Braun before.

DawnOfTheDee · 04/06/2013 18:57

It's incredibly popular round here (yorkshire), along with Eve, Evie, etc

Wouldn't have crossed my mind about it being Hitler's girlfriend's name

It might make you cross...there are several variants of that name (as above) so it's inevitable people will use the wrong one sometimes.

Redblackcar2 · 04/06/2013 19:52

It's very popular along with Ava and Evie but if you don't mind that its a pretty name .

kerala · 04/06/2013 22:28

One third of the girls in dds class named a variant of eve. It's this generations Sarah any appeal drained away through overuse IMO

mrspaddy · 04/06/2013 22:32

I think it is beautiful. Wouldn't associate it with Hitler's girlfriend. Just correct people if they use Evie.. I think with any name someone will shorten or change.. Hannah Banana etc..

forevergreek · 04/06/2013 22:36

Evangeline? With Eva used as shortening will eliminate any of your worries. Although I suppose Evie could still be used.

Or Evelyn

AuntieStella · 04/06/2013 22:41

There are a lot of them around, but if it's the name you really want then go for it. I didn't think of Eva Braun. Only you can tell if you'll get annoyed by a nn you don't like (sometthing that coukd happen with any name, tbh).

Evangeline is a very Christian name - is that a faith you would happy to be associated with?

There are more than enough Eves, Evies, Avas out there already imo.

Turniptwirl · 04/06/2013 23:07

It is a very popular name but its up to you if that's a bad thing.

No probably because its so popular I wouldn't associate it with hitler at all!!

Kids will always get nn that you may or may not like, whatever name you chose

I do like Evangeline actually and wouldn't have thought of it as overly Christian not coming from a religious background myself (tbh probably only Jesus or Moses would be alarmingly Christian to me!)

littleginger · 04/06/2013 23:13

I have an Eva and worried about its popularity according to mn forums but liked it too much to not use (plus it was family name so had more meaning than most on our list).

Dd is only 6m old and i dont bother with playgroups so im not totally in the right environment. However there has been a baby boom amongst almost everyone i know and i just havent come across another eva! Its popularity may only become apparent once dd is of school age.

Eva braun wouldnt enter most peoples heads imo

The evie thing was a huge worry for me too as i really dislike it. I like eva because it is strong but feminine. Evie totally changes that to twee and girly. It hasnt been a real life issue for me yet but the number of people who have called her ava though! I like ava but it is a DIFFERENT NAME and it just pisses me off immensely.

forevergreek · 04/06/2013 23:44

I have never thought of evangeline as a christian name either.

In our family it's a middle name, with others similar like Genevieve. All atheists pretty much

meditrina · 05/06/2013 06:58

I see Evangeline as one of the seriously religious Christian names (because of the linguistic link to evangelise), and because of its popularity with what I call happy clappy types.
