We're struggling with names for a girl (we don't know what we're having but I'm convinced it's a girl!)

Could I please have your thoughts on the following?:

Auden
Delphine
Corin
Anwen

Any suggestions along similar lines greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much

Delphine is lovely too

How about Corinna? Pronounciation more like Corin (at least the one I met) but definitely female. Otherwise:

Meredith
Rhiannon
Meryl
Vashti
Tamsin

Corinna is fairly popular in Germany, pronounced Cor-INNA.

I would definitely see Auden as a boy's name (quite like it though). Delphine is pretty, and I'd say it's actually less girlie than lots of the Ellie/Daisy/Millie/Bella names that are popular at the moment. Anwen is nice. I know a female Corin who is a teenager - not my favourite name, but fine. Think my favourite of your choices is Anwen.

Thanks very much everyone - it's very helpful to have so many perspectives and suggestions.

Zola I'd pronounce it Del-FEEN.

TenthMuse I have a bit of a horror of overly pretty names but I agree that Delphine is nicely feminine without being ridiculously girly.

Selba I don't mind that - Corrie's my least-hated soap!

Sleeping It's been my experience, following my extremely scientific research (ahem) that people seem to pronounce Corinne in any of at least 3 ways, whilst everyone pronounces Corin to rhyme with foreign...it's a minefield...

Blue I quite like Corinna, but prefer the simplicity of Corin. I'm heartened to see a fair few people know females Corins!

Corin and Auden too male. Delphine is ok but a bit frilly for me. Anwen is nice.

Auden and Thisbe are the female protagonists for Dessen's Along for the Ride. Thisbe, now, that's fabulous!

The dad names his daughters Auden and Thisbe as only literary buffs would get the names.

Only like Delphine

Currently trying to persuade DH to choose Anwen for our DD - got a few weeks to go. Like Delphine. Also like Auden, but for a boy - it almost sounds like it should be the male version of Audrey.

Others on my shortlist are: Aelwen, Elowen, Xanthe, Miriam and Tirion.

Corin is a boys name but I love Delphine, that is beautiful

SnoringNorma · 15/11/2014 02:40

Anwen is beautiful. I think Delphine means like a dolphin. Not personally keen. Corin sounds dated and Auden is very manly.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 15/11/2014 03:05

Delphine is the only feminine sounding name and I don't like it, sorry.

What about Caryn (ca-RIN)?

OpalQuartz · 15/11/2014 11:00

Love Delphine. Less keen on your other choices.
