Picked the name Lydia as I was reading pride and prejudice and fell in love with it, mil name is rose so partner picked that, so it's Lydia rose. Have recently found out that is the name of a pillock on the only way is Essex and I DESPISE that program with a passion, was any one else reminded of her? If more people don't then that's my lo's name!

I wouldn't worry about it, TOWIE won't be around in a year's time, I've seen more episodes than is good for me and I definitely didn't make the link.

Don't let it put you off the name.

BikeRunSki · 01/06/2013 17:35

I've never seen TOWIE, but apparently there is someone on it with the same name as DD (19 months). Doesn't worry me in the slightest. I associate Lydia with Austen, not Essex! I can't be the only one.

squoosh · 01/06/2013 17:37

Although in fairness Austen's Lydia was probably a much bigger trollop than Towie's Lydia. Wink

joanna1990marie · 01/06/2013 17:41

Lol true, hadn't got that far into the book though, was kindly pointed that out by my lovely mother!

Lydia Rose is really beautiful and lots of people have never even seen TOWIE, and those who have will not know your DD's full name anyway.

joanna1990marie · 01/06/2013 17:45

Thanks ladies, very reassuring.

Lydia Rose is a beautiful name please don't let it put you off. I would love to have used Lydia but as our surname begins with LY it was a no go Smile

scaevola · 01/06/2013 17:52

I'd think of Lydia Bennett in P&P, or HE Bates' 'Love for Lydia'

I think it's a lovely name.

I wouldn't have made a TOWIE connexion because I've never seen it. And I doubt it will be anything more than a brief and not that widespread association, especially in comparison to Austen.

StickPin · 01/06/2013 18:04

I thought of TOWIE before you mentioned it but I'm incredibly sad. I've always thought her name was nice anyway. And also, she's no longer on it so will be even sooner forgotten.

joanna1990marie · 01/06/2013 18:05

My mum actually hates it, I think it's possibly because I work at lidl and it reminds her of that, she says she's gonna call her lidl Lydia! Ive told her I will flick her in the nose if she dares!

Lydia is a delightful name. Ignore TOWIE and go for it!

DessieLou · 01/06/2013 19:39

I've never seen TOWIE so my first thought was that it was a really pretty name. Go for it!

Lydia is nice. It's classic and pretty, and Austen's Lydia is hilarious (and a trollop!). I know nothing about TOWIE.

ShadowStorm · 01/06/2013 19:53

I've never seen TOWIE, so no connection there.

GW297 · 03/06/2013 00:27

Lydia Rose is lovely!

I've never heard of the towie one.

I didn't call my dd a name I had chosen as a celebrity used is six weeks before my due date. I've regretted t ever since. Nobody would remember her dds name now, six years later.

Weegiemum · 03/06/2013 00:52

Lovely name.

As I don't even pay attention to the ads for towie I've never heard about that connection.

Ham69 · 03/06/2013 08:11

Never heard of Lydia Rose and I watch a fair amount of crap tv (though not TOWIE). I think if it were 2 unusual names together it may make more of a connection to people but, as Rose is a fairly popular (but lovely) middle name, no one will think you've named DD after her. Really pretty name by the way.

sleepingbeautiful · 03/06/2013 08:36

Don't worry about that program, passing fad. I love the name (and also think Lydia Bennett) but my Dad said Lydia Jar / Lydia Teapot every time I mentioned it until I took it off the list :/

joanna0211marie · 03/06/2013 08:47

Sleepingbeautiful, my mum does the same!

sleepingbeautiful · 03/06/2013 08:52

Annoying! Definitely a don't tell what you've picked til the baby's here name then! I bet they won't do it then. It'll be all ohhh isn't little Lydia SO adorable :)

invicta · 03/06/2013 08:57

I thought it was lovely and I never made a TOWIE connection either.

Our second son has a name of an emerging pop star at the time of his birth. No one has linked his name to the star, who although isn't as big 11 years later,is still around.

anastasiakrupnik · 03/06/2013 09:37

Like StickPin said, Lydia left Towie a while ago. Also she was a lovely girl with the self-respect to dump her cheating bf. She had great vintage clothes too, very non-typical Towie, OH always said how much class she had (Towie on series-record Grin)
