I am quite nervous about this so please be gentle with me
I really like the name Griff
Ds has a traditional, not unusual but not very common name
Really want a name that isnt used very much, but not one that is unusual for the sake of it
Anyway, I have liked the name Griff for yonks but DH really isnt a fan
I also like Wilbur and Bruno
Have i gone crackers??

Yes.

Ham69 · 31/05/2013 21:42

No. Love Wilbur, don't mind Bruno and can't see a problem with Griff.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 31/05/2013 21:44

Lots of little Gryffydd's nn Gryff in Wales.

I love it.

thegreylady · 31/05/2013 21:44

Griffith [trad spelling Gruffydd I think] is a Welsh name which gives him another option.I am thinking of Griff Rhys-Jones.It's a strong name.I like Bruno [know one aged 9] but not Wilbur :)

YDdraigGoch · 31/05/2013 21:45

Griff isn't a stand alone name though is it? It's short for Griffith.
The other two are dreadful, sorry.

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 31/05/2013 21:48

I like Wilbur.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2013 21:49

Step away from all of them. Wilbur is a pig, Bruno is bloody awful and Griff is just not a terribly nice sound.

How about Wilfred?

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 31/05/2013 21:50

Arthur is becoming popular, why not Wilbur?

badtime · 31/05/2013 21:52

Griff is usually short for Griffith or Griffin. Would you consider a longer form?

tigerpug · 31/05/2013 21:54

I think he would be Griffith on birth cert but just Griff for every day use
Not Welsh so want to avoid the Welsh spelling, although i do like it

I am relieved with your responses so far, thanks everyone!

Heee Remus! Who is Wilbur Pig? I only know a Wibbly pig.

Yep, love Wilfred (Wilf) too, and Bay and Ralph

MrsJaqenHgar · 31/05/2013 22:02

Wilbur is the pig in Charlotte's Web. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw Wilbur. As it's a children's book, the association is something I imagine he'd encounter a lot.

Like Griff but prefer Bruno.

Lebkuchenlover · 31/05/2013 22:05

If you like Griffith, nickname Griff - why not? Sounds masculine, is easy to spell/pronounce and isn't overused. What's not to like?

Leeds2 · 31/05/2013 22:35

No.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2013 22:37

Don't like Bay, sorry.

Bram or Bramwell?
Barnaby?
Jem?

Turniptwirl · 31/05/2013 23:40

Griff is way better than Bruno or wilbur but then I live in wales

Mellymog · 01/06/2013 08:49

i like it

Frikadellen · 01/06/2013 09:27

I like both Griff and Bruno..

missmapp · 01/06/2013 09:30

I grew up with quite a few Griff's ( in Wales) all decent blokes.
I prefer Griffin to Gryffydd, but like the name. I considered it for ds2, but DH was very against it.

AuntieStella · 01/06/2013 09:37

I know a Griff (he was a Griffin, family surname-based name) and I suppose I'd expect it to be that or Griffith in full. Not a name I'd choose, but not one I'd find peculiar.

I know more than one Bruno (one of Swiss/French background, and I vaguely think Chalet School), and I think it's a lovely name.

No so keen on Wilbur.

SanityClause · 01/06/2013 09:37

They are all lovely, particularly as you intend to give him the full name Griffith, and just shorten to Griff.

I especially love Bruno, though.

And just because Wilbur is a pig in a book is no reason not to use it. Lots of people call their DD Charlotte, and she was a spider!

JojoMags · 01/06/2013 10:23

I love Griff, and Griffin/Griffith as full names. Also like Ralph and Wilf. Not keen on Bay and Bruno and Wilbur are awful.

tigerpug · 01/06/2013 14:27

Thanks everyone, I didnt expect many positives on Griff so I am nicely surprised. And with a last minute scan this morning (all ok - phew!) it seems we are expecting our 2nd Ds, although I am only 15 weeks the sonographer was quite sure she saw some extra bits!

So Griff seems like a very likely option, as long as Dh agrees (he hasnt yet!)

Just want to check it isnt too old man-ny?!

I know a sweet baby Griff. Just Griff. Also love Wilbur.

flipflopper · 01/06/2013 20:09

Yes I like it too, go for it (if you can convince dh)
