Hello,

some opinions on these names if baby 2 turns out to be a girl.
I know my names aren't to eveyone's taste but I'd like to know ones which you think sound nice / interesting (even if you'd never use them) as opposed to those which you consider completely awful.
Also, do any of these names have strong class / cultural / celebrity connotations I'm not aware of? Or are probably going to become very trendy soon?
I made the mistake of naming dd1 a name that was trending, and she now shares her name with several celebrity babies...not amused. I'm now in a panic about A. choosing the right name B. listening to DH's suggestions again! I really regret dd1's name but can't change it now.

Names we like:
Aurelia
Anastasia
Aurora (DH and I met spotting the northern lights so I feel it should be a middle name at least, the only problem is that small children can't pronounce it, i've asked a few! 'Rory' for short I suppose.)
Isolde (ee-ZOLD for anyone whose not heard it before.)
Gwenna / Gwendolyn
Clio

DH suggested Guinevere but I drew the arthurian line at Isolde!

I like names beginning with A. If anyone has any traditional british / welsh names that aren't popular at the moment I would appreciate the suggestions.

DH has struck Alexandra, Kerensa, Iris, Rosamond and Rowena from my list as apparently they are very much not to his taste.
I struck Seren off his because it's much too popular now, and Rosalind because it is becoming extremely popular.

I'd avoid Clio, given that Renault have a popular car model called the Clio.

I like Aurelia and Aurora best out of the other ones.

VisualiseAHorse · 29/05/2013 20:20

I like Isolde, but spelt Ysolda instead.

JumpingJackSprat · 29/05/2013 20:46

Adore aurora and especially with the story. id go for aurora.

HorryIsUpduffed · 29/05/2013 20:49

I don't like Gwenna or Gwendolyn but I know a small Gweneth nn Benny (her name as pn by her older sister at the time) which might be of interest?

Clio is definitely a car.

I don't think Rosalind is popular at all (don't know any, and I know a lot of small children) although Rose as a mn or Rosie as a first name are popular. Rosamund?

PrincessOfChina · 29/05/2013 20:51

I like your list, lots of cross over with ours and we ended up with a Romilly.

I also like Astrid, Genevieve, Anya and Seren.

JojoMags · 29/05/2013 21:56

Rosalind Aurora is fab, Seeker, I also know many, many small children and have NEVER come across a Rosalind, so I don't think popularity can be too big an issue.

seeker · 29/05/2013 22:00

I know loads of children- particularly girls- and I only know one Rosalind- she's 18. So go for Rosalind Aurora.

Bresychen · 29/05/2013 22:10

Awena, Angharad, Anwen

Gwenllian is my personal favourite but don't expect anyone to be able to say it. We played it safe and went for Alys.

youarewinning · 29/05/2013 22:14

Funnily enough my friend and I were discussing Gwendoline a a name today. (our DC's met a girl called Lacey and it reminded me of Malory Towers Hmm!)

Gwendoline Aurora - I think that would be lovely.

EugenesAxe · 29/05/2013 22:24

Should have read but I agree with RaRaz a bit on pronouncing the -DE at the end of Isolde; I don't think it would have to be emphasised though - just a slight shaping.

Ariella would just make me think you'd got inspiration from Tree Fu Tom - sorry.

DizzyPurple · 29/05/2013 22:28

I love Aurelia. Would love to use it myself. I like your story about Aurora though. Sounds like a lovely idea.

OrangeFireandGoldashes · 31/05/2013 03:38

Rosalind Aurora is a stunningly beautiful name, and I don't know any little Rosalinds at all, despite being surrounded by friends with babies & toddlers and having another couple of teacher friends, so I don't think it's particularly popular.

NadiaWadia · 31/05/2013 14:58

How can Anastasia be chavvy? It has been a classic name in Europe for hundreds of years. There have been saints, princesses, etc., called that. FGS.

jellybeans · 31/05/2013 15:02

Anastasia

is the only one I like.

Squarecrisps · 31/05/2013 15:04

You have lovely taste, a few names I'd have liked to use, but DH has vetoed! So, honest opinions

Aurelia - think this is beautiful, only downside might be difficult to shorten
Anastasia - Ok, but I would see this as v Russian and a bit disney princess?
Aurora (DH and I met spotting the northern lights so I feel it should be a middle name at least, the only problem is that small children can't pronounce it, i've asked a few! 'Rory' for short I suppose.) - Beautiful, love it! Possibly a bit disney princess if you're looking for a downside
Isolde (ee-ZOLD for anyone whose not heard it before.) - I love this one, and she will probably be the only one, really nice.
Gwenna / Gwendolyn - Ok, and I think Gwen is a sweet nn, but prob my least fav on your list
Clio - really like it, though it's a bit incomplete/nicknamey, if you know what I mean? I would probably spell in Cleo

Elquota · 31/05/2013 17:22

Aurora and Isolde are both lovely names.

jamtoast12 · 31/05/2013 17:51

The thing is if you call your baby Aurora, no one is going to think of your reason behind it - as lovely as it is. Everyone will automatically think you've named her after a disney princess, it'll be like calling a child Cinderella?! I can't imagine any mother of girls associating it with anything else. Just something to consider... I think its fine as a middle name.

Turniptwirl · 31/05/2013 18:37

Aurora is a gorgeous name! I know one and don't think it's too hard to spell or pronounce especially if use nn Rory. With your romantic story I think you should go with aurora because its bit just pretty, it means something to you and dh

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/05/2013 19:27

Aurelia is absolutely beautiful.

LaChaiseVerte · 31/05/2013 19:40

Alice/Alicia/Alys/Alyssa
Arianwen
Aluned
Anna
Aria
Aneira

I love Aurora nn Rory, Not keen on Anastasia, and the others all have pronunciation issues.
