Have had mixed reviews from friends - some like it and others feel it's a bit of a 'stripper name'. Yes, really. Would welcome your honest thoughts.

I honestly think Amber is a beautiful name. Pretty, easy to say and spell and known about but not too popular. And also not cutesy. Great for a child or an adult.

Smilehappy · 27/05/2013 17:30

I love Amber! Thanks

Wishfulmakeupping · 27/05/2013 17:31

I'm not a fan but wouldn't have called it a stripper name tad harsh!

JazzAnnNonMouse · 27/05/2013 17:34

Indont think of strippers! Perfectly fine name.

pbandjam · 27/05/2013 17:36

Thx all. I had heard it also referred to as 'chavvy', MNers favorite put down but who knows...!

I love it so much, please don't hesitate to use it.

RustyBear · 27/05/2013 17:43

Well, as you can see in my profile, I'm the mother of an Amber, who's now 23 - there were quite a few about when she was born, possibly because of Amber Le Bon, who is a few months older than mine. But I don't think it ever got massively over-popularised, like Sharon or Tracey for example.

AllegraLilac · 27/05/2013 18:06

Diamond and Sapphire are strippers. Amber is a perfectly lovely girls name. Like Ruby.

Don't know why different gem stones fall into different categories.. but them seem to don't they?

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 27/05/2013 18:08

I love it. Desperately wanted it for dd2 but dp vetoed :(

Dontbugmemalone · 27/05/2013 18:20

It's beautiful, under-used name.

StrawberryMojito · 27/05/2013 18:26

I'm someone who uses the word "chavvy" if appropriate. I don't think Amber is chavvy. In fact, I've always really liked it.

pod3030 · 27/05/2013 18:31

my dd is an amber, she was born in the autumn and it is a warm, honey coloured name and she suits it. it has soft edges. Smile

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 27/05/2013 18:32

Excellent. Hope you go for it.

GoodbyePorkPie · 27/05/2013 18:40

Are they thinking of the character Amber Waves maybe?

I think it's a lovely name.

itsallshitandmoreshit · 27/05/2013 18:47

Very common and chavvy where I live. Yes to stripper, sorry.

MrsBungle · 27/05/2013 18:56

It's a lovely name.

I hate the word "chavvy", but Amber would definitely come in that category of names.

ben5 · 28/05/2013 12:10

lovely name. go for it

bootsycollins · 28/05/2013 12:12

I love Amber. I'd love to be called Amber, very cool.

Titsalinabumsquash · 28/05/2013 12:13

If DS3 had been a girl we would have used Amber, it's a lovely, warm name that is pretty but not too girly and sweet. :)

Littlecherublegs · 28/05/2013 13:11

I agree with Allegralilac .

Amber is a nice enough name - not stripper-ish or chavvy.

I know of 2 under 2 and they are both lovely!

Kittenkatzen · 28/05/2013 13:14

I love Amber, can't convince DH on it though - please use it just because I cant! :)

StuckOnARollercoaster · 28/05/2013 13:24

I also love it and was always going to be high on any girls lists. Unfortunately my boyfriends surname has too many a's and b's so it just sounds ridiculous with the surname so I am gutted I can't use it. (I resign myself to an amber jewlery addiction instead!)
I wouldn't let my friends stop me from using a name because they wouldn't, as i'd hope they'dlearn through my daughter how it can have nice associations. The ony thing that does seem to stop me using nice names is if I know an actual person with the name that I don't like.

mumbaisapphire · 28/05/2013 13:38

I really like the name Amber but DH's immediate reaction was 'stripper name'. I don't have that association. It's one of those rare names that seems to divide people-they either think it's lovely and a slightly posh name or it's the opposite end of the scale and chavvy. There doesn't seen to be a middle ground unfortunately.
