Can I call her June?

I love the name. Sweet, simple and not heard much these days. But I have a few issues: 1. I'm American, my DH is British. We live in the US now, but could easily move back to the UK. He thinks June is an old aunty name and she would get teased. And more importantly 2. Our DS is named Henry. (I won't explain this one. If you don't know why this would be an issue, then that's one point for June!)

What do you think? Is she a lovely little girl or an old lady?

I like it. The old lady association isn't that strong for me and doesn't matter anyway as old lady names are so popular. June is surely not one she would be teased for. So to me it's a name for a girl, and a woman too.

Ps I know Henry and June "go together" for some reason but can't put finger on why (ignorant).

I like June. Don't know of any associations between Henry and June. Terry and June, yes, but not Henry.

I was going to say yes I love it! But the Henry and June thing is a bit of an issue. Only because other people would comment and it could get annoying.

I probably wouldn't use the name.

I think it is an old aunts name to people in their thirties etc. But so are Florence, Matilda, Mary and others which are pretty popular and have been revived. I don't think anyone in the baby's generation would tease her. And it's a lovely unusual, warm, summery name.

If dc3 is a girl in July I want to call her Elsie, we told one friend and they said it was an old lady name so I'm not telling anyone else til it's born I love it and can think of much worse names!

Not old ladyish - I like the name per se - but Henry and June would make me laugh.

This is the second June thread in less than a fortnight, so you're not the only one thinking about this name. These sorts of names are definitely starting their revival.

As for Henry and June, depends in how annoyed you'd be by people commenting on it!

I like it! I do like "old lady" names though...I'm due anytime now with a DD we plan to name Margaret. :)

Beautiful name. I had an aunt June but she was never "an old lady". She was hip and cool and active and awesome til the day she died. Go for it.

I think it's an awful name sorry. It sounds boring and lacking in personality like Jane to me. I do like some old fashioned names but IMO some just shouldn't come back in.

Twinkle Elsie is a really cool name.

My grandmother in law is called June she's 82

I had an aunt June, but she was the only June I knew for years and years, and I can only think of a couple more I met, both of whom were much younger. I don't think it's ever been particularly fashionable, a point in its favour for me. I suspect that it might have often lurked unseen as a middle name more than a first name, much like May is atm.

I think it has a fresh young vibe to it, and I don't know th econnection with Henry.

Why not, its a nice, simple, classic name. Old ladies names are popular imo and people don't seem to make a connection between Henry and June. Will she be born in June though, I always find it a bit weird when people have month or season names that don't fit ifswim

When we had DS, DH balked at all the little Georges and Arthurs, Mabels and Marthas, (we gave DS a rather less 'grandad' generation name, not what you'd call modern, but still not very clearly the sort of name you'd associate with a certain generation) then after a few years of all DS's friends having 'old person' names he's come round to thinking of them as being suitable for little children.

"June" still feels a bit younger than grandparent names that are very popular, I think of it being more of my mum's generation than her mum's IYSWIM, but still the point remains the older generation names are increasingly being used for little DCs and not seem to be of a set generation.

(Although it does make me think of June Whitfield who I have heard is a right diva.)
