What do you think of the name Ivor?

I adore Ivo, but my partner's not keen. Was thinking of maybe trying to convince him with Ivor.

Is it too much like 'I've a'? Not worried about the engine link as that will not be well known in his generation.

I'm biased and think the name is sweet (it was dh's grandads name) I love old fashioned names.

poppydaisy · 24/05/2013 15:06

I think some people might pronounce it Ee-vor to rhyme with Igor. I prefer Ivo.

Bert2e · 24/05/2013 15:12

I love Ivor and Ifor but I'm not Welsh so wouldn't use them. Love Iolo too but again I'm not Welsh!

PeterParkerSays · 24/05/2013 15:14

I prefer Ivo.

Ivor seems old fashioned to me, and reminds me of the engine, although I appreciate that most toddlers now wouldn't get the reference.

AuntieStella · 24/05/2013 15:14

The Engine?

It's not to my taste, but a perfectly good name. As long as it's not laughable with your surname.

Lebkuchenlover · 24/05/2013 15:15

Ivo is nicer imo.

Bowlersarm · 24/05/2013 15:18

As you keep coming back to Ivo but your DP doesn't like it; would it be possible to do the old MN thing of finding a longer name which you could shorten to Ivo?

I think Ivor is fine but can't see your DP liking that if he doesn't like Ivo.

SgtTJCalhoun · 24/05/2013 15:19

It's a fussy old mans name, imo.

Chubfuddler · 24/05/2013 15:23

The engine. I don't remember Ivor the engine either but that is immediate association.

Just no. And Ivo is worse.

Hedwig3 · 24/05/2013 15:26

I like Ivor and it is the engine that makes me like it more!

Much better than freaky Thomas et al Grin

almapudden · 24/05/2013 15:27

It was my granddad's name :)

diddl · 24/05/2013 17:12

Much prefer Ivo-fantastic name imo.

AmberSocks · 24/05/2013 20:14

i have an Ivor, hes 7 months,it really suits him.i like old fashioned names, and i prefer it to Ivo,Ivo reminds me of names like Arlo and Milo, quite pretentious.

had no wrong pronunciations, had a few ivor the engine comments but i think thats cute.

AmberSocks · 24/05/2013 20:17

also Ivor is scandanavian, its a viking name, not welsh like Ifor,Ivor means warrior or bowman, ifor means lord.

Rhubarbgarden · 24/05/2013 20:18

I like it.

sittinginthesun · 24/05/2013 20:19

The Engine...

Cute train, though.

ifancyashandy · 24/05/2013 20:23

Much prefer Ivor. Ivo looks 'unfinished' to me. Ivor is a very dignified name.

Mummynotmum · 24/05/2013 20:27

I prefer Ivan...

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 24/05/2013 23:32

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/05/2013 23:44
