Suggestions for DC2 please (criteria!)

Need suggestions for boys and girls names for DC2.
Due to an 'interesting' surname it can't begin with a vowel, H, Y, L, S, B or N!
Our surname is 3 syllables so we think a 2 syllable name sounds best, ideally one you can't shorten.

I don't like names that are too unusual (our surname is unusual enough!) or too cutesy names like Millie or Archie.

I quite like biblical names like Jacob and Joseph. In fact I really like Joseph but not too keen on Joe or Joey which it would inevitably get shortened to.
Not keen on what my mum would call 'posh' names like Rupert or Persephone, or what my mum would call 'made up' or 'not proper' (dont ask!!) names like Mercedes or Sapphire.

Of those suggested so far I like Cora, Kieran, and Zach.

I like Lucas and Sophie but the letters L & S are a no-go Im afraid.
Also like Isaac but names starting with vowels with our surname just sound a bit ridiculous (unfortunately)!!.

I love Zach - do you think that is fine as it is or would it be better to put Zachary on the birth certificate?
And would a 3 syllable first name go ok with a 3 syllable surname?

By the way, think of the surname along the lines of Higgbottom.....

So would Zachary Higgbottom sound too much of a mouthful / too long?

I don't think 3 syllables is too long if they're short syllables iykwim.

Zachary Higgbottom is fine length wise. Elizabeth Higgbottom, Francessca Higgbottom. Delilah Higgbottom. All sound fine to me.

I think it's good to have a shortening available to them though so; Zach Higgbottom, Beth Higgbottom etc. Why do you want a name that can't be shortened?

Can I ask why those certain letters can't be used? And why no vowels?

I think Zach is fine on it's own, but Zachary is quite nice too. It's a shame you can't have Isaac because then you could have two names you like Isaac for full name and Zac as a nn.

I said a name you can't shorten as DC1 has a name you can't and I just thought it might be nice to keep their names in the same vein (??!!) but I don't think this is really an issue.

I have ruled out names beginning with a vowel because our surname does and they just don't sound right (plus I don't like alliteration!).
The other letters are ruled out as mine, DH and DC1 's names start with them and Id rather we all had different initials.

(I may be odd I know!!)

Zachary is definitely on the shortlist anyway, I think you're right - 3 syllables doesn't sound bad at all, thanks!

Keir doesn't follow the "i before e" principal - it is spelt Keir not Kier and it's Keiran not Kieran or have the Gaelic Ciar instead :). I have seen it spelled Kier, but that isn't right (that's if that sort of thing bothers you) it's much the same as Finley becoming really popular and the spelling of choice when the name is Finlay or Findlay originally.

I know what you mean Hummus - that's why you end up with all the different spellings in common use. I guess that's just the way it goes :D

Yes I wasnt sure of the spelling of Kieran / Keiran - in fact I know of a Kearen??!!
Either way I much prefer Ciaran.
