Hannah and such the like

Hi there, I am expecting DC2 and for a girl our favourite/only name for a girl is Hannah. We also liked Grace but someone we know has just named their baby Grace so we don't want it now, also I don't think that one syllable names flow very well with our surname (double barrelled both 2 syllables each).

So if I like Hannah, what else could you suggest? I would like to have a list of 2 or 3 names for each sex then choose when the baby arrives. I like names that are not so common that they will be one of several in their class but also not way out there names!

Hannah is timeless, unfrilly, and Biblical.

So:

Ruth
Naomi
Martha

Equivalent (I think) boys:

Peter
Jacob
James
Saul
Henry
Nathan

Phoebe
Rachel
Isaac
Joseph

Agree Martha, Nathan and Henry sound great.

I have a Hannah, I love the name! Love love love it!

My name, and the names of my two sisters, are listed above, as is the name we were going to call DD had she been a boy!

Helena, Emily, Lauren, Philippa, Hayley, Olivia, Abigail, Sophie, verity, Elisabeth, Faye, Faith, Gabrielle, Ellen

SoulTrain · 18/05/2013 20:31

Just call her Hannah! It's a wonderful name and I would have totally used it if my sister wasn't called it. It's everything I would want for a name for a girl, strong, feminine, classic. Do it!

Or call her Nancy - my name! Smile

How about Hannelie? It's really pretty and unusual but not weird. I am so gutted not to have a Hannelie - DC3 was a boy. A lovely lady where I work is called this and I told her how much I love her name and how I haven't come across it. She's from South Africa and says it's fairly popular there.

Preposteroushypothesis · 20/05/2013 20:20

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Some lovely ideas there!

Hannelli is definitely South African, my DP is from SA and we know at least 4 of them!
