Hello all!

So I have my top three names for my little boy and thought Id see what strangers thought:

Elia - pronounced El-eeeyah, not el-eye-ah. Greek
Leo - good all rounder
Caspar - I have a long surname so was looking at shorter names but love this one.

I don't really care or know whats cool or trendy right now. That's for my GF to know when she weighs in ;)

What do you guys think?

Like Elia, although never heard of it before! Looks nice written and sounds nice.

Love Leo, I know several baby Leos (in other words popular, but don't let that put you off).

Caspar is ok but I prefer it spelled Casper.

1:Leo
2: Casper

Don't like Caspar - sorry! Just make me think of the friendly ghost.
I like Elia but people may find it hard to pronounce it or spell it correctly.
Think I like Leo best!

Yeah, Elia is quite common in greece(GF's family is originally greek) and I've heard it in middle east in places like Lebanon a few times. Seems to be unheard of for a boy over here though.

As for Caspar, I just thought that was traditional spelling, but don't mind either.

If you like Casper, how about Caspian or Jasper?

hellokitty124 · 27/04/2013 22:23

Elia looks and sounds lovely. Would go well with a longer surname.

Jnote · 27/04/2013 22:27

Caspian is slightly too Narnia for me ;) Jasper is ok but harder to shorten, ie Casper can be Cas quite easily, Jas doesn't work so well, what with long surname.

Elia is lovely but I do think that in the UK it might be assumed that it was a girl's name, and also pronounced Ee-LYE-a.

Rhubarbgarden · 28/04/2013 11:22

Elia does sound like a girls name, sorry. Bearing in mind he could well be in a class with lots of Ellas, Ellies and Eleanors (all very popular girls' names at the moment) he could find that uncomfortable.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/04/2013 11:24

Hate Casper, sorry. Agree that Elias sounds like a girls' name but I love Elias and Ellis.
Leo is okay.

Theas18 · 28/04/2013 11:28

Elia us a great name, but in the UK will be thought female. There are a huge number if ellie ella type girls around. I personally know a girl called ellia .

Exhaustipated · 28/04/2013 12:00

Elia sounds like a girls name to my English ears

Leo is lovely but yes fairly popular now

Casper is great.

In case you want suggestions...

Caleb
Xavier
Elis
Asher
Jonah
Luca
