Personally I love it ! It's a lovely name. Am Scottish and it reminds me of where I grew up, particularly the spelling

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 27/04/2013 08:46

I like it, but I'm a sucker for a solid Scottish name. Definitely that spelling.

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 27/04/2013 08:47

My lovely Callum is neither dull nor dated, he is the loveliest charming cheeky funny full of life toddler, and really suits his name, hope that helps :):)

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 27/04/2013 08:48

Just noticed your username - are you in NZ?

You will probably get a load of people coming on to say it's a 'naughty boy's' name, the c-word, etc, etc, but I definitely don't think it has those connotations here in NZ. :)

CurlyKiwiControl · 27/04/2013 09:00

Ah lovely positive feedback thanks :)

I hope I didn't offend you ticketyboo! Obviously I don't think that at all, was just a 'veiled' comment from dp's horrid sister!

And sadly no, im not in NZ :(

The 'k' 'c' thing doesn't bother me, I have a ds with a Irish c name and I think it is a very ignorant way of thinking

To be fair, spelling Irish names with a C is the way forward. :)

singaporeswing · 27/04/2013 09:04

I have a friend in his early 20s called Calum and he is the cheekiest, most charming individual I've ever met. Everybody adores him, especially females!

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 27/04/2013 09:08

No offence all Kiwi it really is a lovely, strong name and I have never come come across anything negative having a little Callum of my own.

I have also learnt never to discuss baby names with family, my DM, MIL and DB have ruined a few names for me with their stupid comments :(

ThreeBeeOneGee · 27/04/2013 09:11

The name itself is fine, not dull or dated. However, it does appear on those lists from primary school teachers of the most frequent names of the naughtiest boys, although I'm not sure it's worth paying attention to these lists when naming your child. I know two Callums, and neither are naughty.

Gwennan · 27/04/2013 09:12

I do find Callum a little dated but I think that's just because its popularity swelled in the 90s/00s.

It is a perfectly nice name though. I like the nickname Cal.

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 27/04/2013 09:16

I call my toddler Cal :) sometimes calamity when he's being clumsy Grin

CurlyKiwiControl · 27/04/2013 09:21

I really like Cal as a nn.

Meh to those lists!

It doesn't strike me as a naughty name Confused

ThreeBeeOneGee · 27/04/2013 09:24

I think you should go for it then.

Weegiemum · 27/04/2013 09:26

I'd only have one 'L' if was me. But great name!

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 27/04/2013 09:26

Definitely use it Grin

IHeartKingThistle · 27/04/2013 09:28

I like it. I've taught lots and they were not all naughty! Now Connors, on the other hand...

lollystix · 27/04/2013 09:30

I have one and he is not naughty at all. We started calling him Cal when he was about 3 and it suits him.

I actually hadn't heard of any until I met one in my 20's and I loved it but since living in Scotland I did meet a few around the time I named mine.

It means 'dove'.

carrielou2007 · 27/04/2013 09:38

Love it Grin

amessagetoyouYoni · 27/04/2013 11:43

Its a lovely, solid name. Popular without being too common. Cal is a fab nn.

Nimthenamechanger · 27/04/2013 12:08

I know a Callum and he's a lovely bright little boy. Has good associations for me. Colum is another option; not as usual?

Tallyra · 27/04/2013 12:15

I was going to call mine Call um before mc, and then DSIL used it for her baby boy. I live it, but since working at a secondary as school I have come across more than I expected.

Never heard of it being spelled with a K though, what's that about? BTW, my sis is called Ciara and spent much of her childhood begin called Clara....

dementedma · 27/04/2013 19:13

Very common here and sorry but have yet to come across one who isn't a little shithorror!

MummyBurrows · 27/04/2013 20:06

Callum is a great name and its not overly popular either which is always a good thing!

I know a Callum,he's 22 and a very cheeky lad (in a good way!) And a right laugh, certainly never a dull moment when he's around! Ignore dps sister and use Callum, its not safe/dated/dull at all so pay her no attention! :)

JojoMags · 27/04/2013 20:49

i prefer connor or conrad. similar but more sophisticated and sexy imo

JazzAnnNonMouse · 28/04/2013 07:12

Nice name. All Callum's I've known have been v v cheeky Smile
