Just wanted to get peoples opinions on Mia? Pronounced Mee-a not My-a..

And what middle names might go with it.. Longer names or shorter ones?

Thanks :)

I think it's lovely, polysyllabic middle name would probably work well with it rather than another short name.

Mia Giselle?

Also, would never think to say My-a! Definitely Mee-a!

fussychica · 24/04/2013 18:35

Everyone will say it's too popular but I think it's lovely.
Middle name probably depends on your surname but make it equally prettySmile.
Mee-a.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 24/04/2013 18:35

Love it.

Mia Rosalind?

NTMummy059 · 24/04/2013 18:54

Thank you.. Was originally DP's suggestion but Im growing to like it :)

I didn't realise it was common.. I've never met a Mia before (adult or child)

Surname is Harvey if that helps!

It is very popular, but don't let that put you off, its popular for a reason- it's a lovely name!

I think a short middle name would work best with Mia and your surname.

Hassled · 24/04/2013 20:32

Mia's lovely, and I know only nice ones. I think a longer middle name - you need some extra consonants in there. Unless you have a very long surname.

Hassled · 24/04/2013 20:32

X post.

dementedma · 24/04/2013 20:34

Friends dd called her baby Mia, as written on birth certificate. Pronounced my -ah! Don't ask me why!
Know three other my-ahs,must be popular

CityGal29 · 24/04/2013 20:59

Very popular I know lots of them pronounced mee-ah and my-ah. Spelt Mia or mya or Miia. Mostly aged 3-4 thought it was popular in 2008 really.

NTMummy059 · 24/04/2013 21:11

Thank you all! Not to bothered about popularity - my name has been in the top 10 for about 10 years and its never bothered me :)

Any middle name suggestions?

It looks like it's become very popular if you look at the current thread where people are listing the latest babies born.

MoonHare · 25/04/2013 12:10

Not keen. Mia, Maia, Maya - lots of samey sounding variations.

If you go with it then agree a longer middle name would suit.

SavoyCabbage · 25/04/2013 12:40

I never know how to pronounce it. Some say me-ya and some same my-ya but spelled the same way. I find it confusing. I have to think "space station" in my head to say it right.

MyTushTingles · 25/04/2013 12:53

My friends 14 yo is called Mia, named after Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction.

mrsyattering · 25/04/2013 12:58

Ds has 2 in his nursery class and Dd has 2 in P1 class, 2 pronouced May a
and 1 pronunced Mee a. The other is My ya I get the wrong pronounciation every time!
I like it though, I prefere Mee a

Dontbugmemalone · 25/04/2013 13:08

I love the name Mia, if DS2 had been a girl, I would have chosen this name :)

hellokitty124 · 25/04/2013 14:22

Lots of little Mia/Mya/Maia/Maya/Majas around but if popularity doesn't bother you, then I think it goes nicely with your surname. I've heard both pronunciations - Mia and Mya.

NTMummy059 · 25/04/2013 18:23

Thank you everyone Im still 50/50 but DP really wants it .. We will have to see!
