my mum gets called Elsie and some people call my sister Liz (both Elizabeth in full). I have always called my sister by her full name.

Startail · 17/04/2013 14:21

Biff, sadly having never met Oxford reading tree I never asked why the Elizabeth I was stuck sharing a flat with was called Biff.

She was very annoying, it suited her.

Elizabeth is a lovely name, I'm a mad keen gymnastics fan so it would have to be Beth!

I know a couple of Buffys, who are really Elizabeths - though I've never much liked that abbreviation, especially now with the vampire connections!

My daughter is called Elizabeth but known as Beth. She went through a phase of calling herself Betty too. We were going to just name her Beth but I think that sounds quite 'young'. Elizabeth gives her lots of options as she grows up.

dramajustfollowsme · 17/04/2013 18:42

I know a Zibby. Took a while to get used to but it suits her.

MrsJohnDeere · 17/04/2013 18:44

I like Libby or Lilibet.

I would have called a dd this, but don't have one.

The 3 I know Born in the last 6 months are all nickname Libby

DandyDan · 17/04/2013 21:54

One in our wider family is known as Libby or Lib mostly. Others I know go as Liz or Lizzie, or Buffy, or Beth.

Tallyra · 17/04/2013 22:02

my aunt's name is officially Elizabeth but is called Beth, nicknamed Bethie. She has complained to me that she wishes she had been named Beth to start with and not have to fill in every form with her long name. similarly dh is called Benjamin and hates it. make sure if you shorten the name you don't turn it into their full name by mistake unofficially iyswim.

mewkins · 18/04/2013 21:26

Mine is a Lizzie. Occasionally Eliza.

I like Busy though (famous american actress uses that I think) but you could also go for a Dizzy if it suits I guess!

blueberryboybait · 18/04/2013 21:30

The Elizabeth I know is known as Bizzy.

ArgumentativeAardvark · 18/04/2013 21:33

I have an Elizabeth, we call her Bethie Boo or Little B.
