Fantastic name, I like it!

Don't know any little Zaras, but I think it would suit any age. Zara Phillips seems to have done just fine and the name suits her.

lululoves · 13/04/2013 23:22

Thank you! Yes Zara Phillips is the only person I can think of with the name, I think it's lovely. Feminine and strong!

ChompieMum · 13/04/2013 23:23

Like it too. Pretty, unusual and strong

chubbachops · 13/04/2013 23:26

My DD is called Zarah, it means princess in it think Arabic or Hebrew.

lululoves · 13/04/2013 23:28

Ahh I didn't realise that was the meaning, how lovely Grin
I like it even more now!

It's a beautiful name, or don't know any other little girls called it. I fell in love with the name when I found out its meaning was princess (I actually call her princess more than Zarah Grin )

I'm currently pregnant with a little boy who will be called Zak. I really like how they sound together

lululoves · 13/04/2013 23:43

Yes princess is a good nickname! And yes I like how it's an easy name to pronounce and spell, but unusual in the sense that it doesn't seem very popular! also-congratulations! Those names sound lovely together Thanks

Yea that's one of the reasons I fell in love with the name, it's so feminine too.

twinklestar2 · 13/04/2013 23:48

chubba - I know sibset called Zack and Zara!

RueDeWakening · 14/04/2013 00:06

I know a baby Zara, she's just turned 1 :) it's a lovely name.

MamaMimi · 14/04/2013 00:21

Dd2 who is nearly 4yo has a classmate named Zara, she is pretty and the name really suits her. She is the only one I know around here, although there was another at the same school a few years ago, but spelt Zahra.

As you say OP, it's unusual whilst being well known. A good choice Smile

KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/04/2013 08:00

My 3yo DDs 'best friend' is called Zara. Pretty name.

ladymia · 14/04/2013 13:40

Love the name! Strong but beautiful and underused. Was on my girls name list but I had a boy.

raisah · 15/04/2013 04:46

I have a cousin Zara, it means flower in Arabic. A variation is Zahara & also Zinnia to continue the flower theme.

Mondrian · 15/04/2013 05:41

Zara was on my short list for dd, if I remember correctly it was a variant of the persian name Zahra meaning, bright, shining, brilliant. Apparently the Persian & Ottoman empires expanded its use to Europe and it was first introduced circa 16?? to English via literature by playwright William Congreve in The Mourning Bride where Zara is a Queen.

girlonfire · 15/04/2013 06:11

I know a 13 year old called Zara, It's a lovely name.

3boysgirlontheway · 15/04/2013 06:18

I know a 1 year old Zara it's a lovely name. I do always think of the shop when I see her though :)

Pr1mr0se · 15/04/2013 10:58

Don't forget the shopping chain when considering this name. Of course it might not be around by the time your girl goes to school so might not be a problem.

lululoves · 16/04/2013 00:32

I hadn't even considered the shop!
Seems to be all positive responses apart from that though, think I'm sticking with it! Grin thanks for all the responses!

I love Zara, for all the reasons already mentioned! It was on our shortlist for dd. I've never met a Zara but think it suits all ages.

OkayHazel · 16/04/2013 01:54

I know an irish baby Zara. Lovely name!

Casperthefriendlyspook · 17/04/2013 02:04

I have a Zara - just turned 4. We love it! She's the only Zara I know in real life too. :)

Linguaphile · 18/04/2013 15:23

I love this name, but I don't know if I have the guts to use it because I shop at Zara a LOT... All this positivity is now making me reconsider, though!

Seriously, is Zara Philipps the first thing that comes to mind for most people (as opposed to the shop)? If so, it's definitely going on my list.

burtyowl · 15/08/2014 13:29

I have a daughter called Zara Lily Rose. It's a beautiful feminine name

PeriodMath · 16/08/2014 14:48

Old thread! Well, OP, did you call her Zara in the end? Hope so, lovely.
