Shortlist of girls names at the moment:

Verity
Caitlin
Poppy
Harriet
Emily

Any thoughts? Also love Amelia but it's popularity is a little off-putting.

I love Verity and have never met one.

PhyllisDoris · 10/04/2013 21:56

Harriet

StellaNova · 10/04/2013 21:56

I love Harriet and Emily but they are all lovely.

WorkWankWail · 10/04/2013 21:56

I LOVE your username - ha Grin I like Verity very much as well - quite inclined towards Verity Harriet at the moment.

Verity is lovely. Caitlin is very popular. Poppy is nice but I can't imagine a teenage or grown up Poppy. Harriet is lovely. I can't remember ever coming across a Verity at work (well except for a colleague) but we have several Caitlins. No Harriets either but several Amelias.
I'd go for Verity.

Hassled · 10/04/2013 21:57

Oh they're all nice. You have good taste.
There do seem to be a fair few Poppies around these days.

At a push I'd pick Caitlin. Or Verity.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/04/2013 21:57

Harriet then Emily then Verity then Poppy.

WorkWankWail · 10/04/2013 21:57

KingThistle but thanks everyone Grin

Verity
also like Constance a lot

WorkWankWail · 10/04/2013 21:59

dizzy - you sound like my friend, who keeps insisting that Poppy is a child's name! I do love it but our surname is one syllable as well and I do wonder if it makes Poppy sound like a dog's name! No idea why!

I have always loved Harriet but have a one syllable surname beginning with H and one friend says it sounds a bit strange - don't think it does myself but there we are. Also like Hetty/Hatty for Harriet: I like names with options really.

jkk - constance or connie would be on my shortlist if it wasn't for the fact a good friend has a Connie. Sad

Harriet.

I knew a Verity, and it was shortened to 'Vee'
Not the most attractive nickname, whereas Harriet has more choices.

exoticfruits · 10/04/2013 22:02

Harriet, Verity and Emily.

Haylebop12 · 10/04/2013 22:03

Slightly biased here as dd is Amelia Caitlyn!

However I LOVE Harriet and want to use it for dc2. Also really like Poppy from your list.

WorkWankWail · 10/04/2013 22:05

Hayle - gorgeous name! Grin I love Amelia but just keep thinking about how in the early 80s every girl was named Rebecca or Helen ... But I have an unusual name and spelling it and saying it does get really annoying, hence I've tried to choose pretty but 'normal' names for girls.

decided on Sebastian for a boy - what do you think people? Have had mixed reactions ranging from Hmm to :)

StellaNova · 10/04/2013 22:07

I think Harriet OnesyllablesurnamestartingwithH sounds great!

StellaNova · 10/04/2013 22:08

Love Sebastian as well.

WorkWankWail · 10/04/2013 22:10

Thanks Grin It's hard, this choosing babies' name business - have found lots of names I like and not many I love! I think it's going to be a toss up between Harriet and Verity!

Skygirls · 10/04/2013 22:13

I love Verity and Emily.
Have you looked at Amelie instead of Amelia?

Sebastian is a great name for a boy.

practicality · 10/04/2013 22:18

Amelie is lovely.

WorkWankWail · 10/04/2013 22:18

LOVE Amelie, but would she spend the rest of her life correcting people who call her Emily? Grin

OP posts:
thermalsinapril · 10/04/2013 22:44

Emily or Poppy

AcrylicPlexiglass · 10/04/2013 22:49

Harriet

olivertheoctopus · 10/04/2013 22:55

Harriet.

GW297 · 10/04/2013 23:02

Go for Amelie, it's beautiful and popular enough for people to recognise it.
