Barnaby? Our only other choice is Thomas which we love but am not sure about giving our son a commonly used name (I grew up being 1 of 10 ........... In my class and hated it!!

I like it. He will probably get barney from his friends

rubyslippers · 07/04/2013 16:03

i really don't like it

FriggFRIGG · 07/04/2013 16:23

I like it,it's on my ever increasing list.
I don't like it shortened to Barney though, and I'd worry about that happening.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 07/04/2013 16:26

I love the name Barnaby, it's the name of my puss. He was named after DC Barnaby in Midsomer Murders. His brother is named Troy. I'm not putting you off because my Barnaby is really cute and loveable. It's also the name of bear in a programme I used to watch in the 1970's. Name your child whatever you like as with most names people always know someone/something that they associate with that name either good or bad, eg I knew a golden retriever called Carly. I always think of the smell of damp dog when I hear of a girl with the same name. Grin

I like it. I also like the nn Barney FWIW! Maybe because I had a friend at school with this nn who was v cool!

thermalsinapril · 07/04/2013 17:17

I don't really like it, but there's nothing wrong with it and if you love it then use it!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 07/04/2013 17:55

Love it! DH does not so its off the list, I have only ever met one and he was a really cool, lovely guy, worked as a solicitor.

Mellymog · 07/04/2013 18:46

I love it, including all the shortenings :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/04/2013 19:19

Love it. Love Barnabas too, and Barny.

Ruprekt · 07/04/2013 19:21

Prefer Barnabus and love Barns as a nn. Smile

Frikadellen · 07/04/2013 19:23

I like

olivertheoctopus · 07/04/2013 22:51

My eldest is Barnaby and we have never had any adverse comments (altho than my grandma whose only experience of it is Inspector Barnaby off Midsomer!!) and people also go on about how much they like it. My DS is very much not a Barney at the mo (aged 4) but we expect that to change as he gets older. There are quite a lot of dogs around called Barney though....!

emmyloo2 · 08/04/2013 07:30

Love it and wanted it for this baby if it was a boy. My hairdresser is a 40 year old Barney and is uber stylish and cool. Absolutely go for it.

LaCucina · 08/04/2013 07:34

I think it's a bit cutesy for a man, also getting popular, which would put me off. Nothing actually wrong with it though.

Reminds me of Stig of the Dump!
