This is for a friend who's due to give birth very soon.

She is English, DH is Spanish so they wanted a name that reflects both of them.

Suggestions for girls and boys names please!

Ooooh I love Sergio

BikeRunSki · 03/04/2013 19:06

I once worked with a Spanish Victor, whose brother was Vincent, and went to school with a Spanish/English Sergio.

For girls, Maria works. Anna, Esther. Would Stella work? (I am asking because I know a french/English/Italian one who was named as such because it works in all three languages, and Spanish is another latin based language). Marla?

fussychica · 03/04/2013 20:13

All the Spanish women I know are Julia, Maria, Carmen, Laura, Maribell, Lorraina, Cristina, Sofia, Sara & Pilar

DS male friends - Juan, Jose, Antonio, Miguel, Pedro, Luis, Francisco, Andres, Sebastian, Herminio, Jesus, Baltazar & Victor.
Any good?

Blimey, I always thought Iker must be a nickname, but it turns out to be a Basque name. I used to know an Iker, but his name was really Michael and the nn came from his little bro not being able to say it when they were little.

A few to choose from here - top baby names in Spain in 2009 (couldn't find 2013, sorry!)

Kahlua4me · 04/04/2013 21:25

Sofia

Liara · 04/04/2013 21:29

Similar situation here. The key is to decide whether it is important to you that they be pronounced the same in English as in Spanish.

If the answer is yes, it really restricts your choice. Pretty much anything with a J, I, R, (among others) is out, as they are pronounced very differently in the two languages.

Then you have to find names that have the stress on the same syllable in both languages.

It's not easy, but there are a few.
