What goes with Walter?

Not sure whether it's a boy or girl but we pretty much have a girls name agreed.

We can't think of anything suitable for a middle name for Walter, our surname begins with a K and DD has the middle name of Arabella so we would like something in keeping/along with same lines.

On our list last time was George Hugo if DD had been a boy but I'm not sure Walter Hugo works?

Any thoughts?

Don't you think it's a cool name? All the "Grandad" names are coming back, we know an Albert, Arthur, George, Fred, Frank.

Definitely no to Alexander, I don't like it plus 2 of our close friends have both used it for their Son's.

Cannot imagine either of my boys wanting to be called Walter esp with the nickname Wally.

Much nicer names out there if you want an old fashioned name.

I like Walter Hugo. But it made me think of Victor, which I prefer to Walter. Doubt you'd want Victor Hugo, tho!

I think Walter is a cool name. Sir Walter Raleigh. Walter Swinburn. Walt Disney.

Don't get why people say it's wimpy when Wilfred seems to be OK - I think Wilfred sounds much wetter than Walter.

I have an Arthur Walter. They are both family names and the Walter runs down my DH's side and they are Scottish and none are called Wally, it's either Walt or Walter.

So how about Arthur as a middle name :)

DD is Poppy (which I first heard at work - it was the name of an adult client) and I thought it was lovely and really unusual. Since then whilst we have only met dogs so far called Poppy I appreciate it is speeding up the name stats.

God Percy would be terrible [bugrin], so would Lesley.

Wilfred is fine, I just prefer Walter.

Well I like it, and I just don't understand why people are sneering. It's a fine and noble name.

It is unfortunate that one of its nn's has been used as a derogatory term (but not a really nasty one). However there is an alternative shortening that has no baggage, and there is no need to shorten it anyway. My granddad was always Walter, no one ever called him Wally.

I know a little Walter and he is a very cool dude err walter james? Walter John? I would go simple myself.

For what it is worth, I dont like first name and middle name to have the same number of syllables, so with Walter, I'd go for something with 1 or 3 syllables. But that's just me [bugrin]

Its a nice name and I think Walter Hugo goes well. And think Walt is very cool.

Be VERY careful - initials W.K. just leads to Wanker nicknames when he is older. Especially if you put an A or an N in the middle!!!!!!

What is wrong with George, your choice from before?

My great-grandfather was Walter Joseph, and his son was Joseph Walter, so I reckon that goes :-)
