Camille & Francine

Any thoughts? I like Francesca and Josephine so thought Francine was a nice combination of the two. I like Camille & Camilla (but not sure i can get past the Parker Bowles connection). I also can't decide if I like Camelia? Thanks!

Camille is lovely, I don't think anyone would really make the Parker Bowles connection. I think Camelia would too easily be heard as Amelia, although that's lovely too. Not so sure about Francine. Why not Francesca or Josephine? they are better imo.

CocoNutter · 30/03/2013 19:57

I like Camille - very pretty. Francine sounds to me like a whiny teenager in an American film....! I think it'd be nice pronounced the French way (FrOncine) but not the English. Jut my opinion though - it's your baby!

delilah88 · 30/03/2013 19:58

Hello! wildcard here but I reckon you should go for CANDICE! An amazing, underused name.

I also think Fran and Josephine better than the other two.

showtunesgirl · 30/03/2013 19:58

I like both! I just looked up the meaning of Francine and it means: free. Smile

Caitycat · 30/03/2013 19:59

Both nice but I actually thought Camille was a boy's name, is it unisex?

AThingInYourLife · 30/03/2013 19:59

Francine is terrible.

Frances is so much nicer.

Camille?

It's one of those names that sounds a bit shit when pronounced by an English speaker.

delilah88 · 30/03/2013 20:01

If you really want this kind of name what about Colette? Not my taste but I know a grown woman who pulls it off with flair (in English speaking countries).

LaCucina · 30/03/2013 20:03

I know a Camille and people oftern say "Cammy" or "Cameeel" - looks prettier than it sounds.

Really don't like Francine.

I really like Josephine and Francesca - why not these?

How about Georgina?

squishee · 30/03/2013 20:33

I live in France, where Francine was a popular name maybe 70 years ago. It is also a well-known flour brand, and has all those homely / traditional French connotations.
I can understand why it might work better in the UK or elsewhere.

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 31/03/2013 00:23

Camille is lovely

Christelle2207 · 31/03/2013 08:32

i also like camelia. saw an air stewardess with that on her badge (years ago) and has been on my list since.

Wishfulmakeupping · 31/03/2013 08:40

I love the name Camille so pretty and unusual :)

ZolaBuddleia · 31/03/2013 19:27

Would you pronounce it Ca-meel or Ca-mee?

lottiegarbanzo · 31/03/2013 19:31

I really like Camille, much better than Camilla.

Not keen on Francine, Frances or Francesca are much nicer. Josephine v nice too.

Is Celeste any good?

ZolaBuddleia · 31/03/2013 19:35

Ooh, Celeste is beautiful.

williaminajetfighter · 31/03/2013 20:30

Had a lovely friend named Camille. Went by Cami and Milly.

DessieLou · 31/03/2013 22:28

I was thinking I'd pronounce it Cam-eel wit Cammy as a nn. I'm going off Francine, it was more of a passing thought really! Francesca & Josephine are still contenders though.
summerinsicilia I agree that camelia would be confused with Amelia so think that's a no no now.
Thanks so much for your thoughts and suggestions. Keep 'em coming! Smile
