names with same letters?

Hi,

My name begins with a 'j', as does my husband's. We are having a girl in 3 weeks time and our favourite name is Jasmine. We're a bit worried about all having a name starting with the same letter. I like all the abbreviations for Jasmine but don't want to look stupid at parties!!

Thoughts?

I once knew a family where the parents and both kids had names starting with S. they wanted to call their dog Zebedee but called him Sebedee instead. I probably wouldn't do it tbh, v confusing when post comes!

Have you considered Yasmine instead?

I think it would be liveable with, but not ideal IMO. It would sound a bit twee, like a cartoon family maybe .

I don't really see it as a problem.

I have the same initial as my OH and if there was a name we liked that was the same, I would have used it without thinking twice.

DH & I have the same initial and so does one of my DSs,never considered it to be a problem.

I knew a family where dad, mum and first two kids all had names starting with the same letter... and 3rd kid had a name starting with a different letter! I guess they had run out of good options. It wasn't a problem though, so I think you should go for Jasmine if you like the name.

I'm just slightly jealous she got the more unusual name.

Anyway with text, email and FB, they are hardly likely to have any love letters to open by mistake.

me and my dad have the same initial... it caused the odd issue with post but that was it really.

Me and OH also have the same initial and I am not sure I would choose a childs name with the same initial if I could help it, I think it starts to sound a bit silly!

My mum, dad & sister are all S's. not a problem/issue at all. I don't think anyone has even commented- go for it OP

I wouldn't worry about it at all. If you like the name, then go for it!

Presumably you all have different middle names so your initials won't be the same.

I think it'd only be a problem if either of your names sounds like Jasmine (e.g. Jasper).

My parents, brother and myself all have the same initials. Nobody's ever batted an eyelid. Ever.

My OH and I both have the same initial and my two sons have a different initial but the same as each other. We all have different middle initials. I share the same first initial as one of my brothers but my OH has two other brothers with the same first initial and 3 other siblings with varied other ones.

I don't think it matters.

Actually my two sons have the exactly the same letters in their name in a different order but the eldest has one more letter in his. Didn't notice until we were ordering up some letters to put their names on their bedroom doors :o

I know a woman who is E and so are her 2 daughters, her dp isn't though. I don't think it matters.

Not quite the same but my ex's family out of about 10 males* 8 ended in 'n'

Jason, Keiron, Sean, Simon etc.

*father brother, nephews.

dh and I both have 'J' names. We decided against all 'J' names for our dc (even though there are many 'J' names that we both liked). It's annoying enough getting our post muddled! Plus I think that it's a bit odd to be so matching.
