It's too close to Finn, isn't it?

Or is it?

NotTreadingGrapes · 19/03/2013 15:08

It's a girl in the Freya North books.

But yes, it is v close to Finn.

KobayashiMaru · 19/03/2013 15:10

It's short for Fenella or something just as daft isn't it?

FriggFRIGG · 19/03/2013 17:37

It's a name in its own right...I like it for a boy,but I reckon he'd be forever correcting people "no,not finn it's fenn "

I know a Fennick who is known as Fenn - I quite like it

FriggFRIGG · 19/03/2013 17:42

Ooh!
I like Fennick!!

OkayHazel · 19/03/2013 17:48

Fennick is great! Fenn feels like it's missing something, but Fennick fills that gap :)

lljkk · 19/03/2013 17:49

It's where eels live.

FriggFRIGG · 19/03/2013 17:59

I can't find any information on Fennick....I'm not sure it's a 'real' name...

OP posts:
ladymia · 19/03/2013 18:12

No I don't think it is either?

names.darkgreener.com/#fennick

Aldwick · 19/03/2013 19:13

Ok - just checked with his Auntie and it's spelt Fenwick but they pronounce it Fennick.

OrbisNonSufficit · 19/03/2013 19:14

I think it's difficult for a boy because it sounds like fen (wild and swampy in other words).

But it mainly reminds me of Douglas Adams (Fenchurch in SLATFALTF)...

allbie · 19/03/2013 19:49

I think Fen sounds lovely on its own.

scaevola · 19/03/2013 19:55

I'd expect a Fen(n) to be female (Fenella).

Fenwick would be fine though (transferred surname) unless the association with the family that founded the shop puts you off (it is what I'd think of first)

anotherbrewplease · 19/03/2013 19:57

I like it.

Wishfulmakeupping · 19/03/2013 19:58

I like it- think its got a completely different feel to finn

IAmLouisWalsh · 19/03/2013 20:24

Fenton?

pramdunce · 19/03/2013 20:25

Sounds like the place to me, sorry. Bleak.

pygmy · 19/03/2013 21:09

I know a little boy called Fenn! I like it.

FriggFRIGG · 20/03/2013 10:09

Thanks for your input....it seems not everyone hates it Wink

I like it as it is,im not keen on surnames for first names, and fenton makes me think of that dog Grin
I also, perhaps weirdly, quite like the 'wild and swampy' connotations...our DC are a bit wild and swampy anyway...

I really like Fenn. I wouldn't worry too much whether Fennick/Fenwick is a "real" name or not - all names were made up once upon a time!

nooka · 21/03/2013 18:00

Fennick makes me think of Finnick from the Hunger Games. Not an altogether bad association though :)

SandStorm · 21/03/2013 18:07

I went to uni with a Fenn many, many years ago. Don't know what his full name was though - he only ever used Fenn. (He was also rather dreamy ....)

FriggFRIGG · 21/03/2013 18:10

I like Fenn in it's own....I'm not a fan of recently made up names.
Fenn is a name in its own right, both our other DC have short names too.

It's on The List Grin
