Elsa, Rosa and Iris

Love all these names but I'm concerned that they won't sound good with our surname. It begins with S and rhymes with button?

Also, I think that Elsa is considered to be a shortened version of Elisabeth but we'd want to use Elizabeth. What do you think?

Another fly in the ointment is that our DS is called Isaac and I think Isaac and Iris will sound too matchy (and I think there's a book about polar bears called 'Iris and Isaac').
With all these doubts I know I should just forget them all but I just think they're all so lovely.

The "S" thing may be a bit of a tongue twister but honestly, the child isn't going to be called "first name surname" every day so I wouln't worry. Elsa is quite possibly my favourite name ever so I'd use that as a stand alone name.

You could go for Rosalie? Shorten to Rosa?

I'm not keen on Iris though.

I love Elsa! I really want this on our list but DH not a fan :(

telsa · 14/03/2013 10:49

I really would not go with Iris - because of the SA surname and because of the clash with Isaac. Much too samey. I think Rosa sounds fine with your surname and so does Elsa. Go for one of those. Maybe Rosalie or Rosina is a little easier to say. And shortening Elsa from Elizabeth is just fine. Happens all the time.

Hi, my daughter is Elsa, shortened from Elizabeth, and our surname starts with an S and they run together quite nicely, in for it, it's a beautiful name-biased!

SoulCakeDuck · 15/03/2013 20:17

Go not in, silly phone...

janie2 · 18/03/2013 20:57

What about Ailsa instead of Elsa if you don't want the Elizabeth confusion? All names go with your surname and all very pretty. Good Luck!

fruitpastille · 18/03/2013 22:52

Love your names. What about Eliza, Esme or Isla to consider?

fruitpastille · 18/03/2013 22:55

On second thought, not Isla with Isaac!

Love those names but don't think they go that well with your surname.
Iris best in that regard. Something a bit longer or with different sounds might work better.

Eg
Penelope
Rosanna
Jemima
Vivienne
Beatrice

Orla
Lois
Cora
Mabel
Anna

Exhaustipated · 18/03/2013 23:01

Oops just noticed Lois not the best match either!

Elsa is (high)on our list. Hadnt occured to me to call baby Elisabeth or Elizabeth (and we couldn't tbh because BiL has an Elizabeth nn Lizzie) we would just call her Elsa which (as well as being a nn for Elizabeth) is a variant of Scottish Ailsa - we have Scottish connections.

TenthMuse · 19/03/2013 12:21

While I love Elsa, I think it would be a bit tongue-twistery with your surname. Rosa should be OK though, as it has more of a 'z' sound than an s.
