Edward nn Ted

After going round in circles with DH we seem to have settled on a family name Edward if dc2 is a boy. I am not hugely keen but like Ted or Ned as a nn. We are are leaning towards Ted, is it popular? What do people think of Ted?...

Not mad keen on Edward, bit stuffy for me, but I'm not into 'classic' names generally. Love Ned (unless you live in Scotland), Ed and Ted.

I don't like Ted/Ned personally.

Could you not give him a first name you both like and use Edward as a middle name? Seems unfair you have to settle on a name you don't like!

Ilove edward,a ds would have been edward oscar or oscar edward
Really like ted, teddy or ned for nicknames

Hedwig3 · 12/03/2013 14:57

I have never liked the sound of Edward so am bemused by its amazing popularity around here over last 3 years!

Please don't use a name you aren't happy with, he and others may use it at some stage.

Also not keen on always-used 'nick names' that have a different initial to actual name.

Sorry for being so negative.

Love Edward nn Ted. Not keen on Ned, I think Flanders, and am aware of the Scots slang even though I'm
in England.

They is a 6 month old in DDs swimming class who is an Edward, nn Ted! I like it! Grin

timtam23 · 12/03/2013 22:27

I have an Edward, although he's always known as Eddie (I was going to call him Teddy but it didn't suit him)
Used to live in Scotland so Ned was definitely not going to be on the list

I still don't particularly like Edward as a full name but DH & I were unable to think of any other name that we could both even slightly agree on (having used up our one & only "compromise" boys' name on DS1)

Heavywheezing · 12/03/2013 22:33

I have an Edward, I called him that because I liked the name ned.

I rarely call him ned though! Usually Edward and it suits him.

It's a timeless name and will suit any boy or man

spaghettina · 12/03/2013 22:38

I like both Edward and Ted! not keen on Ed, definitely not Ned. but if you're not convinced, find something else.. are there any other family names you could use?

Hassled · 12/03/2013 22:41

Ted is lovely, Edward is lovely.
But you have to think that - you can't call your child a name you're not hugely keen on.

I have an Edward who is always Ted or Teddy - he is gorgeous and the name really suits him
