Nicknames for daughter

Hi

I have named my 1 month old daughter Sophie Isabelle. I know the names are very popular but they are 2 we always liked. But I really wish now there were fun nicknames I could use rather than just Soph. Would it be weird to use nicknames for Isabelle when that is her middle name?

Can anyone give me some good ideas on nicknames...I need inspiration!

Lovely names by the way. Children just seem to pick up nicknames - my friend's daughter was called Moo and her name was nothing like it.

Sophie doesn't really need to be made into a nickname, its lovely as it is. My DS has a name that can't be shortened and he's mostly called Bob (his name isn't Robert).

NN often have nothing to do with the child's real name, and they often develop over time.

For instance, when DS1 was little his nick name was Jim Jams - nothing like his real name!! It was just a nn that started when we were doig nappy changes...

How about Fizzy?

Do you feel that you HAVE to give her a nickname? Why not just call her Sophie - a beautiful name - and a nickname may evolve either from her own name, something funny she does etc? It seems a bit contrived to be thinking so hard about a nickname imo. Congratulations, by the way!

I agree, just see what happens. I was Lulabel, nothing to do with my name. I call my charges Tootie and Mr Moo, just cause :)

I totally get the nickname thing...as beautiful as Sophie Isobelle is- it's a long name for a little bubba...My DD is Ariana- we call her Ari...feels strange and impersonal to say 'Ariana Rose!' Lol...other nicknames include 'noodle' 'schmooshy' 'bubba' (most used even though she's almost 2!) 'peck pie' is another but that's because my DH and i call each other pecks...also 'nana' (thats how she says her name) nick names are fun and they will come to you over time. I suppose if I am honest the reason I am thinking about it is I'm feeling a little deflated with my choices, like I should have gone with something more exciting or different. I've always been indecisive though so this may just be a result of that. It's making me think I should have chosen a name which had a few different things it could have been shortened to. I really like Isa and Ella but they are both nns of her middle name.

My DS has a name that doesn't lend itself to shortening. He usually gets called monkey or munchkin.

Nicknames are crap anyway, why would you want to give her one? Most people want names that can't be made into nick names.

I was going to suggest Fi or Fifi (my wonderful late geandmother's nickname).

A little Sophie in DD's class is Fizzy and another is Fifi.

Don't feel deflated about your choices. They are lovely names and go really well together, which is something I hardly ever get to write on baby name threads .

ah thanks for lots of fab comments. I think I'm still having a bit of the baby blues too which is making me second guess my decisions. I keep thinking now she looks more of an Isabelle than a Sophie so feel slightly panicked that I have got the names the wrong way round which is prob why I keep saying nns of her middle name! Baby naming is such a big thing! Sigh!

I think your name choices are lovely. I know what you mean about nicknames. We're trying to decide on a name for our bump due in a few weeks and I'm struggling to find a name I like with a cute nn.

After months of struggling I thinks probably not worth getting worrying about nns too much. There are first names I love that don't come with cute nns and nns I love where I don't like the actual name, I'm beginning to realise it's not worth worrying about. As others have said nn can evolve naturally. The names you've chosen have several nn options and are both really beautiful in my opinion.

My son was known as Snow Bear for a long time as he had a t-shirt with that on the front. Another nn was sticky paws from the front of a bib. Other son is still called Moose or Moosie Man because of a jumper he had one christmas!

Another nn he had for a while was Sunny B(oy) as the Sunny D adverts were all over the tv at the time and he had a smile that lit the room like the Sun.

Could I call her Isa or Ella? Even if its a nn of her middle name?
