Am 35 weeks and still a bit meh about girls names (fine for boys names!)

Contenders so far are:

Beatrice
Elizabeth
Niamh
Bethan (Beth)
Lois
Isabelle

What do people think of these?

Beatrice - good nn potential (I know a Bertie, very cute)
Elizabeth - ditto
Niamh - she will have to spell it constantly and get used to people not knowing how to say it. Lovely name
Bethan (Beth) - I like this one - popular enough that everyone has heard of it and simple to spell
Lois - Lane
Isabelle - its very very popular around here - she will have to spell it frequently.

As some-one who's name is always spelt wrong this was a massive factor in naming my DC - might not be at the top of your priority list! I also have the not saying my name correctly - I answer to anything close!

Thanks loler, my thoughts exactly about Niamh especially as we have a surname which people always get wrong. DH loves the name but you've given me the affirmation needed!

Elizabeth - beautiful, classic and lots of lovely nn potential!

Doilooklikeatourist · 09/03/2013 21:45

I don't like Niamh or Lois
( I live in Wales, it's pronounonced Loyce here , yuck )
Love Beatrice , Elizabeth and Isabelle

starsthatshine · 09/03/2013 21:45

Really like Elizabeth & Niamh. It's relatively popular around here,so not sure I would worry about the spelling.

loler · 09/03/2013 21:47

How about Maeve - easier to spell and similar name? (although I think the proper spelling of that is Maebh) - I loved that name but DH would have none of it. I was really stuck for girls names too - lucky he was a DS!

bouncysmiley · 09/03/2013 22:13

Lois or Niamh (although this is getting very popular)

DessieLou · 10/03/2013 01:58

All lovely but I like bethan or Lois. We had a list of names we thought were ok but not in love with. When dd arrived we went through the list & there was only one that suited her. It was just her name, iykwim. Now we adore it, it's officially the best name ever!

lottiegarbanzo · 10/03/2013 02:28

Least keen on Bethan. Lois is ok. Others really nice. Niamh could be problematic for spelling and pronunciation. Isabel / lle / lla is lovely but very popular. So I'd go for Beatrice (lovely) or Elizabeth (underused but well known, lovely and gives you Beth too if you want).

Thanks for all your replies. Really useful and food for thought.

Like Beatrice, Elizabeth, Niamh and Isabelle. Don't like Bethan but do like Beth - would use Elizabeth. Don't like Lois.

Maeve lovely too.

Littlecherublegs · 10/03/2013 22:39
