Hi everyone. My husband and i are discussing baby names at the moment. Its still early days in my pregnancy but we enjoy talking about all we can anyway. Its taken us nearly 2 years to conceive so no time like the present to start planning! Anyway the names we seem to agree on are:

Isabella paige
Jacob Philip

Can you all let me know what you think of these names and if there are any associations i should know about. We are open to suggestions except from Philip which is my dads name.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. Paige has no connections just seemed to flow with Isabella. I like Philippa and i like fern as a middle name. The thing is, as has been said its hard to agree on names with two different tastes!

How about noah for a boy? I prefer it to Jacob but again it is very popular.

There are 3 Noahs in DD's nursery class, so it is really popular, or at least it is in this part of the country.

Love the name Jacob. Isabelle is lovely too- but tbh it's very very popular... I suppose for good reason. Its one of the sweetest girly girls names there is! My husband didn't like it for this reason Hmm

Both lovely. Congratulations.

There are a lot of Isabella/Isobel/Isabelles around. But that's partly because it's a pretty name! She will spend a lot of time being spelt or pronounced wrong, potentially, or known as Bella S.

I don't like Paige at all - it makes me think of Knots Landing which nobody else will remember (my mother made me watch it; I'm not that old). There are much prettier names, and if you'd use a family middle name for a boy, why not use a family middle name for a girl?

I don't like Jacob, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. It feels very Old Testament to me (like Noah, Isaac, Joshua, etc) and I prefer New Testament or more modern than that Wink but again it's a well known and well liked name.

Philip is an excellent middle name in its own right, but particularly with the family link.

Good luck!

I like Isabella Paige, DD knows a 14y one.

Jacob is lovely and surprisingly not as common as the less nice Josh.

14y Paige almost all the Isabel/ Isabella's are younger and there are a fair few.

They're both nice inoffensive names - Ladymia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damning with feint praise.....

As you have two DDs already you are probably aware of what's popular at playgroup/nursery/school.

I like both choices so far. Will you find out at your scan or wait until birth to see what you're expecting this time?

It's tough choosing when you & DH find so few names you agree on. Is he leaning to traditional less 'trendy' names?

Instead of Paige which is nice enough but you don't seem convinced by, how about a middle name of Violet or, more daringly, Poppy?

Love the name Isabelle, nn Izzy?, prefer it to Isabella which seems to fussy somehow. Not sure I would want to spend life spelling it out though.

Love the suggestion up thread of Isabelle Poppy.

Liking Phillipa, but please not Phillipa Fern.

Like Philip as middle name, and like Jacob too, not sure if they flow together very well though. They sound better reversed.

How about Anthony Philip, or Alexanda Philip?

Isabella lovely not sure about the paige bit.

I'm a Philippa so biased but I don't like it as a middle name it a more a first name type name. But that maybe because I'm so used to it being a first name. Perhaps Pippa would be a better middle name.

How about Isabelle Joceyn?
Phillips Joceyn?

Report
FriedSprout · 07/03/2013 01:26

That should be Phillipa Jocelyn

We aren't finding out what we are having this time as it will be our last. There are no family names for girls that i like really. Diane is my mum's name and i have already used it. Isabella is my husbands grandmas name who is no longer with us. Maybe Isabella as a middle name? I like violet a lot. Poppy and Lucy are both names of pets in our family. Lots to think about...

I was going to suggest Kate as a middle name for Isabella or Imogen, .
How about Violet Neeve?

Still like Jacob Philip but instead of Jacob suppose you went for Owen Philip?
Grace, Eleanor and Owen.

ldt87 · 07/03/2013 16:35

I like Owen Philip a lot actually and it goes with my daughters. Good suggestion donkeys, you may have sold me on that one! My girls are grace and Emily by the way, eleanor is a middle name Smile

I equally like violet and Imogen, possible middle names- neeve, fern, philippa,
Surname is 2 syllables and begins with t.

All replies are much appreciated, ultimately i know it is our choice, but here is a good place to get an idea of what people will think, which does matter to me. I also don't want my child to be known by surname because they share their name with so many other children. Although my other two have popular names, they weren't really when i named them, and extreme popularity does put me off.

Now that is odd I was just on another thread and nearly suggested Amber. Love it. Quite different to Emily and Grace?

Report
ldt87 · 07/03/2013 16:56

Yeah i think it is a bit different, it has been nearly 8 years since i have been thinking about baby names though, so my tastes have changed a bit! As long as this one doesn't sound out of place different doesn't bother me too much. I really like Amber, not sure what middle name would go with it though?

I like both names, good classic names, although I do prefer Isobel to Isabella. Nothing wrong, IMO, with calling a child a popular name, I have a Rebecca.
