Can your 3 year old do these things?

By three, I mean just three...not almost four.

walk down stairs alone alternating feet
manipulate scissors or will not attempt to cut with scissors
stand on one foot for 2 seconds
throw a ball overhand
wash and dry hands

If you wouldn't mind, can you tell me if this list is reasonable for a just turned 3 year old?

Scissors are fine - good infact!
wash and dry hands - fine
throw a ball overhead (one arm I assume) - fine

not sure about standing on one foot....he can march?!

Stairs I tell him to be VERY careful hence most likely not alternating feet I don't think....

Why?

Eachpeachpearwherestheplum · 23/02/2013 22:33

Oh and DS has been 3 since Tuesday Grin

Millhillmummy · 24/02/2013 12:55

Yes mine is 2 and can do all those things, why?

sheeplikessleep · 24/02/2013 12:59

walk down stairs alone alternating feet - no (and his CM has recently commented he 'should' be doing this by now, but she is very keen on milestones, me less so)
manipulate scissors or will not attempt to cut with scissors - yes
stand on one foot for 2 seconds - yes, i think so, but could be wrong
throw a ball overhand - yes
wash and dry hands - yes (of sorts ie attempts, not that I would call that thorough though!)

DS2 is 3 in 2 weeks

Why is this in baby names???

MrsMushroom · 24/02/2013 14:21

Well I asked for it to be moved Debs....if you read the comment I made after the OP...then you'd see it was a mistake!

Mine is 3.5 and can't walk downstairs with alternating feet or manipulate a scissors. He can wash his hands. I don't think he can hop he only recently figured out jumping with both feet! Not sure about the ball throwing.

JoandMax · 25/02/2013 09:05

DS2 turns 3 next month and yes he can do those things, no idea when he started though!

However he's not potty trained, doesn't sttn so it's all swings and roundabouts

Smugfearnleyshittingstool · 25/02/2013 10:07

Dd 3 tomorrow, she can do all of those things apart from the stairs, she goes up the right way but down it's one at a time. She has peen potty trained since before she was two though Wink and count to thirty! ( smug )

ISpyPlumPie · 25/02/2013 10:23

DS is 3.3 and can do almost everything on the list, except he's only just really started using scissors. Is just getting the hang of how to manipulate them, but certainally couldn't cut something out on his own yet.

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 25/02/2013 10:27

Dd is 3 in june and can do all those things. She is the youngest of 4 though so I've noticed she is doing things a lot quicker than my other dc did.

Rockchick1984 · 25/02/2013 20:46

My DS is (nearly) 2, and can wash and dry hands, stand on one foot and throw a ball overhand. I wouldn't have thought these 3 things were particularly challenging, he's not what I would consider to be particularly advanced.

He bumps downstairs on his bum though, and I wouldn't let him near scissors dread the idea of the mischief he would get up to :)

Mine runs on and off escalators by himself. Does that count?

Yes, can do those things. Hand drying style is somewhat...rudimentary.
