Effie?

We love the name Effie but I'm not convinced it could stand alone as a name in its own right. We are tempted to either call her Elizabeth officially, and then always use Effie, but we only think we can do that because that was the name of the girl in Skins! She was Effie short for Elizabeth. It's more traditionally short for Euphemia. Which we don't like! I think Effie is an adorable baby name but not so much an adults name, so we def think we need to give her a long version. What do you think? Any Effies or parents of Effies out there?

In the abstract, sort of reminds me of the expletive f... off. Can't imagine I'd think that though if I knew one.

You could always give your daughter the initials F.E. as a way to the nickname Effie.

Gwennan - You aren't the first to say that...!

It's actually rather sweet. Could it be used as a pet name for Eliza or Ellen,as well as Elizabeth?

Doshusallie · 19/02/2013 19:25

Reminds me of a character in the hunger games. Who was a bit annoying.

DefiniteMaybe · 19/02/2013 19:25

I love love love Effie. Doesn't match my surname though. I love Elfie too.

oooggs · 19/02/2013 19:27

Lady across the road is called Aoife but pronounced Effie

sarahbean123 · 19/02/2013 19:28

I love Effie, because it reminds me of the girl from Skins and I thought she was awesome! I'll definitely consider it for any future girls.

BikeRunSki · 19/02/2013 19:51

I know an Effie who is about 20 months old. She is just Effie, which I think in nice for now, but might be odd when she is older. I love it as a nn though, but would be tempted to use it as a nn for a name that begins with F.

sw11mumofone · 19/02/2013 19:57

I immediately thought f@#% off too. Sorry!

fruitypie · 19/02/2013 20:08

we liked this name for a girl too and saw it was short for 'Effemy' or 'Ephemy'

Stixswhichtwizzle · 19/02/2013 20:10

I think its cute.

juneau · 19/02/2013 20:22

Effing Effie - that's what it makes me think of.

And wasn't Mrs Doubtfire Effie?

Sorry, I think it's horrid.

Scootee · 19/02/2013 20:26

Effie reminds me of effing hell etc. I don't like like it at all, sorry.

Gimmeechocolate · 19/02/2013 20:27

Could it be a nn for Phoebe or Sophia?

onlymeee · 19/02/2013 20:45

I think it's horrible, but if you like it you could just use it as a stand-alone nickname, and it will either stick or it won't. Lots of kids acquire nn's that are unrelated to their names.

Eefie?

OkayHazel · 21/02/2013 10:12

My initials are FE and I wish someone had nicknamed me Effie as a child! Its so cute.

Sadly I'm so entrenched in my identity now that Effie just doesn't feel like me.

TheCatIsUpTheDuff · 21/02/2013 10:29

Elfrieda?

weeblueberry · 21/02/2013 11:10

There is a little girl in my dgs class [nursery] named Effy.I posted on here as to what it was short for.I believe it is traditionally Josephine or Euphemia but this little girl is just Effy [spelt that way]-I asked her mum :)

TaperJeanGirl · 24/03/2013 19:36

I have an almost 2 yr old Effie, she is just Effie, we wouldn't ever use a longer version so she's Effie on birth cert, we love it Grin

NotSoNervous · 24/03/2013 19:39

I really like the name and I think it would be fine to use a nickname for Elizabeth

SuedeEffectPochette · 24/03/2013 21:17

Nooo What about Effie Norah? What if she marries someone with a name beginning with N? It won't sound good.
