'Friend' term used loosely. Already has a 5 year old named Ronnie, just had a new baby called Reggie. It's not just me is it? THat is totally fucking ridiculous isn't it?

Interesting, either I know your 'friend' or someone else has just done this too.

HarderToKidnap · 19/02/2013 16:11

I've met a girl with identical twins called Ronnie and Reggie.

I mean one of those names is fine, but when you put them together you just think of the Kray's don't you?

also know of a boy/girl reggie and ronnie. maybe the names just go ???

ThonHoor · 19/02/2013 16:45

Absolutely ludicrous.

I would assume the parents of so-named children to be utter imbeciles.

AKissIsNotAContract · 19/02/2013 16:48

Yeah of course, we think of the Krays, but I doubt any of the kids in their class will. As long as they don't called the next one Frankie.

AKissIsNotAContract · 19/02/2013 16:50

I bet there are quite a few Freddie and Rosie sibling pairs around too.

dietstartsmonday · 19/02/2013 16:55

My cats are called Ronnie and Reggie, but i wouldn't inflict it on the kids Grin

edam · 19/02/2013 16:56

That's weird. Are they a bit dim? Surely you'd realise?

NorbertDentressangle · 19/02/2013 16:58

Through work I knew of a family with a Ronnie and Reggie. They must be in their late 20s now.

Can't help but wonder how their life panned out for them as it wasn't looking too good when they were 9/10 years old Sad

cookielove · 19/02/2013 17:16

like the siblings are going to grow up living in each others pockets, what does it really matter?

I find it equally odd that people have issues with matching names e.g milly and lilly and un matching names e.g mark and ben. It is not like any of it matters. They are only names.

I know the link to the krays twins, but it wouldn't bother me in tge slightest

NotSureILikeIt · 19/02/2013 17:29

Just awful names full stop without the association to the Krays.

HorseDNAinJellyAndIcecream · 19/02/2013 18:19

That's awful. They were a monstrous thugs weren't they? they blinded somebody. to be thought to be admiring Reggie and Ronnie, i wouldn't want people thinking i was so dumb I glorified those two, what a weird decision!

eggso · 19/02/2013 19:37

I just want to shake her.

akissisnotacontract i'm in my early 20's and i know who they are. Fred and Rose is different though. She has clearly named her children because she thinks it's a good thing to have 'gangster children'. I will say it and be flamed, she is a massive chav, and probably thinks having 'hard' children is a good thing!

cookielove there's a difference between Milly and Molly or Jimmy and Jamie, and naming your children after vile gangsters isn't there?

OP posts:
Fairydogmother · 19/02/2013 20:20

Em afraid to say that my friends wee dog and ferret are called ronnie and reggae so I'd never consider calling children that!

cookielove · 19/02/2013 22:37

Yes of course there is a difference, but my point was that in years to come when the children are grown and living separate lives the fact the have the same names as well known gangsters really isn't going to matter. It really isn't going to make a difference to their lives.

Maybe she just liked the names and thought 'f**k it' i'll use those names because they are important to me.

Its like when people won't use names because they have certain meanings that they don't like, because clearly that will affect who the child becomes Hmm

My point is, they are just names!!

eggso · 19/02/2013 23:21

A name meaning does affect your life though. There are a lot of times in lifewhen you'll be judged by your name on a piece of paper. Even seperated, I think each of those names on a list doesn't scream employable, respectable gentleman., not even a cv or uni application, just anywhere you go someone will see your name and have an image in their head! So names aren't just names actually!

OP posts:
cookielove · 19/02/2013 23:37

But are Ronnie and Reggie really going to be in a situation in life together where both their names will be put underneath scrutiny together, which essentially the problem that you have with their names, that together they represent the Kray twins, seperatly they are perfectly acceptable names!! Maybe names that you don't like, but they are perfectly fine names.

AKissIsNotAContract · 20/02/2013 08:43

But taking away the Krays reference (which only really applies when the 2 children are together so won't matter in job situations) the names are perfectly acceptable. When they are adults they will likely shorten them to Ron and Reg. You really think those names make someone unsuitable for university?

TenthMuse · 20/02/2013 19:13

Am a teacher and there were identical twins called Ronnie and Reggie in one of the schools I've worked in - seem to be quite a few around! Agree that they are individuals, and will go on to lead separate lives, but still imagine a few eyebrows will be raised whenever they happen to mention their sibling.
