What do you think about Esther for DD2?
Already have DD1 called Rosanna. Dh really really likes Esther, I like it but am worried I don't love it as much as I love DD1's name. I like Elisabeth, Madeleine and Lydia but none of them feels like the one.
I think its growing on me but have concerns that it doesn't have an obvious nickname (DD1 is called Rosie quite a lot) and it sounds a bit harsh, also not sure what would go well as a middle name.
Your opinions and suggestions please!

Esther is lovely.

Could use Estée, Essa, Essie, Hettie, Tess as nicknames?

Also like Hester, which lends itself to the nickname of Hettie.

There's also Aster too.

SneezySnatcher · 19/02/2013 10:24

I think Esther is beautiful. Was on our girls' list, but this DC is a boy.

Startail · 19/02/2013 10:26

I love Esther it was my first choice for DD2, but it was DH's turn and so she's something equally pretty, but far commoner.

brackengirl · 19/02/2013 10:31

Do you think Esther Madeleine flows well?
Also love idea of Tess as a nickname, all positive so far... maybe it is her name!

My dh loves Esther too. I wasn't sure at first but it's definately growing on me. A classic underused name.
Love your DD1's name BTW Smile

dashoflime · 19/02/2013 13:19

I like Esther.

rubytutu · 19/02/2013 13:24

Lovely. Would have Lucy as a middle name.

WhichIsBest · 19/02/2013 13:30

Esther Madeleine is lovely. And Rosie and Tess goes well. :)

Rhubarbgarden · 19/02/2013 13:55

Esther is a very elegant name. It doesn't need a nickname.

MERLYPUSS · 19/02/2013 14:08

Love it.

JazzDalek · 19/02/2013 18:27

I love it!

NotSureILikeIt · 19/02/2013 20:58

Yes it's cool.

Gimmeechocolate · 19/02/2013 20:59

Nn Ettie?

saycheeeeeese · 19/02/2013 21:00

Love it, love the story of Esther in the Bible too :)

sw11mumofone · 19/02/2013 21:02

Really lovely name. And definitely doesn't need a nn. And Esther Madeleine is beautiful. Would use it myself but sounds ridiculous with our surname unfortunately.

telsa · 19/02/2013 21:47

Sorry to disagree but I don't think Esther Madeleine flows very well. And I don't think Esther is that nice. I prefer Hester/Hetty . Madelleine is my preferred first name. Elisabeth is lovely too.

Ooopsadaisy · 19/02/2013 21:51

If there had been a DC3 and been a girl, she would have been Esther.

Lovely, traditional name.

Ooopsadaisy · 19/02/2013 21:52

Meant to say - she'd have been Esther Ivy.

loler · 19/02/2013 22:00

I think it's a lovely name. And if you like the middle name does it matter if the names flow (for what it's worth I think they do)? How often do you say the names together - I can't remember the last time any found out my middle name, let alone used it.

NN generally find themselves - would never have guess what my DCs would be! But Esther has lots of possibilities!

Devora · 19/02/2013 22:02

I love Esther, and Hester even more. Tess is a very cute nn.

Esther is very pretty only known one in all my life.

Esta is very similar.

Jules722 · 21/02/2013 18:31

I think Esther is very pretty but I prefer the latin derivation, Estelle. That is what I named my youngest DD so I know I'm partial to it :) You still have the same nickname options also.

Something to consider...best of luck!
