Leo

We've been really struggling to think of a boys name that we both like. Then, yesterday I heard someone say Leo and it sounded perfect. Mentioned it to my very fussy husband who also likes it. Unfortunately, his parents have a cat called Leo. Their cats are like children to them. Is this a good enough reason to not choose the name?

I honestly don't think I could use the name of a family pet to be honest. It is purely down to how you feel about it though.

ladymia · 16/02/2013 11:51

I wouldn't personally.

I also liked the name but it's far too popular now sadly.

I love Leo is number 1 on our list. I also like poppy and that's the name of my old cat.

Pfb is Leo! Husband chose it, I absolutely love it and have yet to meet another Leo in rl. Totally biased but i say go for it. Going to disappear from this thread now before loads of people come along saying how much they hate the name!

How about Leon? Similar, but you can't be accused of naming him after the cat.

Corygal · 16/02/2013 16:03

Lovely, lovely.

I wouldn't worry about the cat. Your Leo will be around when the cat has been long forgotten by most.

My DS has Leo for a middle name and I often wish it was his first.

squoosh · 16/02/2013 20:42

I like the name but would find it odd to give a baby the same name as a pampered and beloved family pet.

lucywiltshire · 16/02/2013 20:56

What about Theo - similar to Leo but not a pet name!

Troubleintmill · 16/02/2013 20:59

Well that's not quite true Lucy.... Our DS is called Theo, so is our next door neighbours Labrador!!
We knew this when we named him though.

Littlecherublegs · 17/02/2013 17:13

I like Leo but the pets name would definitely put me off.

As mentioned, Theo and Leon are both great alternatives.

In my mind similar names include:
Noah
Eli
Max
Owen
Cole
Milo
Lucas
Oscar
Joel

Love it. On my list for any future boys! :)

Leo is a great name. Don't really like Leon - I think they're totally different names.

I have the same thing with Lottie (Charlotte full name). I think it's so pretty, but DH's parents have just gone and got a dog called Lottie! I think we're steering clear for that reason, because it's a tricky one and I think DH's family would find it strange. On the other hand, a little baby has a habit of stealing the show, and I'm sure your gorgeous baby Leo could claim the name from the cat with no problems!
