To go with a long scottish surname with lots of hard consonants.

Astrid, great name.

VBisme · 11/02/2013 00:35

Iris is beautiful, Astrid is a bit harsh IMO

Narked · 11/02/2013 00:37

I adore Iris but it has become very Popular.

ZolaBuddleia · 11/02/2013 12:16

Love both, for me the growing popularity of Iris might tip me towards Astrid. Are you in Scotland? Is there a likelihood of it being shortened to Ass? Can I tempt you with my other faves: Stella, Honor, Miriam, Pearl, Bess?

Leeds2 · 11/02/2013 12:44

Love both. Prefer Iris.

telsa · 11/02/2013 13:16

Iris is very harsh, I think. I think Astrid is fantastic - sounds soft and strong at the same time.

bootsycollins · 11/02/2013 13:18

Astrid is fantastic Smile

It's not my baby, it's my niece ( I have three boys!) DB was asking my opinion as being a man he has never wasted time thinking about baby names and now he and his DP are having trouble finding a name they both like. DB was of the opinion that Astrid was a bit "out there" but I have seen it mentioned here a few times recently and know a five year old year old Astrid so I have reassured him a bit. There are a lot of retro names like Iris than work in North London but don't sound so good in a Glaswegian accent!

Zola, I like Stella and Honor too, but don't feel it's my place to come up with more suggestions to confuse matters further ( I did make a mental list just in case they asked me!) . The baby has actually been born so its make their up time.

Another vote for Astrid, a gorgeous name!

MamaM22 · 11/02/2013 14:21

Yep, Astrid here. I once met a lovely girl called Astrid, who was able to tell me, that at that point in time, she was the only person born in Northern Ireland to have been registered with that name! Made me like it even more!

wigglybeezer · 11/02/2013 15:22

DS3 has just opened a Lego mini fig bag to find a tiny girl Viking inside, must be an omen! I feel sure they will choose Astrid now.
