Expecting DC1 soon and we are trying to decide how to merge our surnames for the baby. We both agree that each of our surnames should be in there.

The options as far as I can see are to use both, with or without a hyphen, or o create a new name. Our names go quite well together, very similar to the names Smith and Perry.

So the options would be-

Perry Smith
Smith Perry
Perry-Smith
Smith-Perry
Perrysmith

Is the last one more practical seen as its one word, or are there any practical reasons to choose one in particular? None of them are jumping out as the best idea -so I wondered what other people thought sounded the best?

hi, i had had a similar thought about what mine and dp child would be called, as my 2 children would have my name, and any new additions, dp would want to use his surname, thus giving them different names to me and my 2. so, one idea that did run through my head was, what if i used my surname as childs middle name?, which in your case, would be xxxx perry smith? then both names are present "most" of the time? or is that just a daft way of thinking on my part? fwiw smithperry sounds nicer than perrysmith which reminds me of perrywinkle i hope that doesnt offend you though! Smile
