Peter? Jolyon?

Anyone have thoughts on either of these? I love both but I think I may have odd taste in boys' names... I am looking for something uncommon but traditional. Also like Edward and Rupert. All reactions welcome! Thanks.

all good apart from jolyon - try saying them out loud, I find it hard to say iyswim.

NorbertDentressangle · 03/02/2013 12:03

Of those its only Edward that I would consider OK I'm afraid.

Jolyon is along the lines of Tarquin and Ptolemy in my mind

ClaryCazalet · 03/02/2013 12:09

Hmm, feared as much re Jolyon. Views on Peter anyone?

Peter is a fab name, it's my dad's name and Ds's middle name. seriously considered it for first name too. Petie is so Chechen they're little.

RooneyMara · 03/02/2013 12:18

I have one, it's a super name Smile I'm surprisedthere aren;t more little ones.

BikeRunSki · 03/02/2013 13:15

Peter is my DS's middle name too, after my favourite uncle. Considered it for first name, but it would have given some one else I don't like ideas!

Anyway, apart from the uncle connection I like it because it is traditional, well known, but not common.!

SingSongMummy · 03/02/2013 13:21

I love Jolyon, think it's a great name; unusual, but traditional.Smile

IHeartKingThistle · 03/02/2013 15:01

oh my it's not Chechen! Cute! It's so cute!

Thanks all, some useful responses here. Just love Jolyon in the Forsyte Saga and is there a cuter nn for a little boy than Jolly?

I love Peter it's definitely on my shortlist..it's an established name without it being too common, and suits all ages.

I also like Rupert.

Jolyon is one of my absolute favourite boys names. It has so many nicknames, and if he is not keen, then he can always shorten it to Jon.

I would have had it if, my hubsand hadn;t banned me and I only had daughters Grin.

shoobidoo · 04/02/2013 11:24

I know a lovely 12 year old Jolyon - he's very cool and so I like the name. Jolly or Jonny as nicknames. Really love it actually, espcially as it's not overused.

I'm less keen on Rupert and find Edward a little dull.

omri · 04/02/2013 15:31

love peter - its on my shortlist if my next is a boy :)

omri · 04/02/2013 15:33

meant to say too - i have only ever met very good, honest, loyal men called peter. dont think you can be a bad person with such a good strong name!

ZolaBuddleia · 04/02/2013 15:36

Is it pronounced Jolly-on, Joll-yon or Joll-yun?

I know a Peter who's a bit of a git. Grin

ClaryCazalet · 04/02/2013 19:43

It's pronounced JoeLeon I think. Thanks for the feedback all.
