Clutching at straws now for a name we both like.

Like it a lot - but how are you pronouncing? Like One Drection (Ny-ahl)
Or Nee-ahl? (Often anglicised to Neil).

Can't use it myself but very nice and has a great heritage/meaning.

First baby name thread where I actually thought "ohh great name!"

Really lovely name - good luck on the final decision!

Just suggested this name to my DH a few weeks ago and we both really like it (if its pronounced Nile). It's a strong sounding name I think.

herhonesty · 02/02/2013 12:39

Nyal/Nile... If it was nee ahl surely it would just neal...

It can be Nile or Neel. I think in Ireland it's always pn Nile, and in Scotland it's sometimes Neel.

Niall is the original spelling of the anglicised name Neil.

Love Niall- we have a Niall in the family. Veh veh good Irish name. First King of Ireland AND Niall Quinn.

What more could you want?!

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/02/2013 14:18

I know a little Niall. I think it's a great name, unlike the anglicised Neil which sounds like a command rather than a name.

Pancakeflipper · 02/02/2013 14:27

I like Niall (Nile).

Dominodonkey · 02/02/2013 16:56

My favourite boys name of all time . Unfortunately due to the delectable Niall Quinn there are billions of Nialls my way.

SilentMammoth · 06/02/2013 04:30

It's a bit 1975.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 06/02/2013 05:36

newbielisa · 06/02/2013 05:44

Love it

amck5700 · 06/02/2013 12:50

I know a Nile - named after his parents honeymooned in Egypt. Great name with either spelling.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 06/02/2013 12:53

I have a brother called Niall, have seldom met another one. I like the name.

HappyHugs · 06/02/2013 21:46

Ideally if spelt Niall it should be pronounced Ny-al to rhyme with 'dial' as oppossed to sounding like the River Nile. Otherwise its really just a variation of Neil.

MoppingMummy · 07/02/2013 14:15

Love Niall. Great name!
