I seem to really like this for a girl. Is it actually a proper name? Any thoughts on it?

I don't know if its a proper name but there is a little girl at DDs school called Nola and it's very sweet.

badtime · 25/01/2013 12:45

It's an anglicisation of 'Nuala', or short for 'Finola', which is an anglicisation of 'Fionnuala'.

It is actually reasonably established as a name in itself, although purists will not approve.

FriggFRIGGisPoorlySick · 25/01/2013 13:19

I like it,a lot.
Though I do prefer Fionnuala personally.

KirstyoffEastenders · 25/01/2013 13:23

Bit too close to Enola for me
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enola_Gay

MolotovCocktail · 25/01/2013 13:28

It's an 'in-between name' to my ears: I don't like it as much as either Lola or Nuala. It's like a combination of those names to me.

juneau · 25/01/2013 13:29

Nola is what people who live there call New Orleans.

NowPlayingZone · 27/01/2013 22:42

....don't dislike it.

anonymosity · 28/01/2013 00:12

My son has a Nola in his class at school (he is 6). I think its lovely.

HoneyandRum · 28/01/2013 05:22

Ate at a restaurant called NOLA in this case it was New Orleans Louisiana (LA is the state abbreviation) it was in Noo Orlins and was fantastic. I also think Nola is the main character in an Spike Lee movies She's Gotta Have It or something like that...

LazyMachine · 28/01/2013 05:58

It's my sister's dog's name!

LazyMachine · 28/01/2013 05:58

(Mind you, she's a very sweet pooch...)

Teapig · 28/01/2013 07:59

I like it a lot but then we a considering calling our LO Fionnuala so I might be biased. Her nickname would be Nula or Lula.

I think if you like it go for it, it's very cute.

GW297 · 28/01/2013 08:11

I like it!

getagoldtoof · 29/01/2013 15:06

Nola in new orleans is amazing. The parmesan oysters were unforgettable. But yes, just came on to say that to me Nola = New Orleans Louisiana.

Yfronts · 29/01/2013 17:29

Norah is nice too

CecyHall · 29/01/2013 17:32

I just saw this name today while re-reading Rachel's Holiday

pipsytwos · 29/01/2013 18:25

I've never heard of it but I think it's really lovely! Grin I think it's a good name because it'd suit a sweet little girl as well as a adult. Really like it!

Sashapineapple · 30/01/2013 18:27

I know a lady called Nula (late 30's) and she is lovely.

I like Nula, not keen on Nola.
