I do not mean this in a bad way but anyone hear the same names over and over and over the last couple of years?

Mines are:

Jayden - had 8 clients so far this year with that name
Ellie
Eva
Imogen
George
Girl names ending in Lee, Lea, Leigh

Oh and to the poster who asked why people don't check the top baby names?

I have never cared about what name are popular or unique. I picked names that I liked and names being unique or popular had no part of my decision when I named them.

When Evie was born I had a few midwives tell me that they hadn't met another Evie. Names that may be uncommon can very quickly become popular in the space of a year. When people tell me they have named their child something unique I often think in my head "give it a year or two and it will likely be popular"

Here all the boys are called Henry.

There are so many they also have to use their full surnames as there were still too many Henry 'S's' etc.

Girls are
Tilly
Isabella
Isabelle

Isabel, Annabelle, Lily, Sophie are the Claire, Louise, Sarah and Jane of my generation.

Oh yes and Lily and Florence.
flowery and a couple of others- bit pissed at ur comment if I'm honest. I have a Charlie. When I chose it I was fully aware it was no 3 but I didn't give a shit as I loved it, didn't care if it was popular and my grandad who I never had the chance to meet was called it.
I resent the implication that your name is 'substandard' if it is popular. They are names that have stood the test of time and are classically beautiful. And I hate this trend for calling your children something ridiculous!!! So there.

I think that every name from the top 100 list for boys and girls have been mentioned in this thread. Does that mean that all of those names are over-popular? Personally I have more of a problem when people try too hard to be original. Just go with what you like. Alot of the scroaty names are the (very) original names, you know the names that you hear horrid mothers screeching accross town, give me an over-popular name any day!

In Manchester:

Mi/Maya/Mayaa so many its ridiculous.
Lots of Isabelle's/Isobel/Isabella etc etc
Harry
William
Finn/Finlay etc
I know a few Arlo's too...

I don't like 'original names', well some are nice but most of the time it looks like your pretentious, unless it's a family name or means something. And top ten names for girls can be pretty but for boys they're just so blerghhhhh most of them and boring! Nice inbetweeny not top 10 but not crazy name for us :)

Jayden makes my skin crawl. I just can't imagine that on a CV or job application in 18 years time. It sounds made up.

That's nice, eggsy. I hope nobody with a Jayden sees this.

I have to say I agree sort of with eggsy I just think Jayden sounds ... Well ... For want of a better word...chavvy.
waits for backlash from Jayden mummys

I apologies of anyone is offended, but that's my opinion.

(But Jayden is a truly bad name - a made up spelling AND one of Britney Spears' children!)

Does anyone have a well behaved Jayden? All the ones (5) I know have behavioural ishoos.

Report
ClaraBean · 25/01/2013 14:49

I don't have a Jayden, but the only one I know is in ds's class (9/10 year olds) and he is quite well to do, and a sweet little chap.

Hobbitation - "Isabel, Annabelle, Lily, Sophie are the Claire, Louise, Sarah and Jane of my generation."

This made me laugh. My DSis and I have the four names of 'my' generation that you mention between us as first and second names. My DD is one of the first four names......

To the person who asked why people don't check the name lists - we did. And our chosen name was number 51 for the year that she was born. If they'd consolidated all the different spellings though, it would have been much higher up.

We'd never heard of another baby with this name - I still honestly think that we came up with it all by ourselves and that we were being completely original Blush
