Lana /Anal

So the fact that Lana spells Anal backwards - is this really a reason to not use it? What would you do if you loved the name Lana, would it just be a no go?

I know a "Lanna". That's the same name and not anal Solent backwards.

Wouldn't have realised that it spelt anal backwards tbh. If you really love the name can you not change it to Lanna - though admittedly Lana looks 'better' written down.

it would put me off, i have a habit when reading/writing of working out what the words say backwards. at one point when i was younger (and incredibly bored whilst revising for my gcses ) i was almost fluent in "backwards language"! so it would bother me because i would read it every time i saw her name written down! but if you have a more normal approach than me i wouldnt think its a problem

Yep, I ruled it out for the very same reason I remember doing backwards words in school and once some kids get hold of something as good as 'Anal' they are unlikely to let it go . Gutted as think it is a beautiful name too.....

Wouldn't bother me, but then most of my shortlist autocorrect to rude words! Not why I chose them I can assure you!

I'd never thought of it but now you've pointed it out that's all I can see! Sorry, would put me off. Mind you, my DB told a friend that Angus was anus with a g spot in the middle, but it didn't put her off giving the name to her DS!

Great names, forgetmenots. Wouldn't actually put me off. My DS has an Orla in his class and I'd never thought of that! Lana, on the other hand, is more obvious to me as it's spelt backwards. I remember as a child working out all my friends' names backwards. My DH must have done the same as one of his friends calls him Nodrog!

I know a Norwegian Hanne (pronounced Ha-na). Not sure if Lanne might work - as you'd end up with exactly the same pronunciation; just a different spelling. Admittedly, Lana is prettier.

The thing is, the Lana/Anal thing might not ever be a problem. Or ... it really might be. There's no way of knowing...

My Dad is Alan, and he hates his name precisely for this reason - his name is an anagram of Anal. He always says he doesn't understand why his parents had to choose that spelling. It's quite something for my Dad to get so worked up about something so apparently innocuous - he's usually the most laid-back person you can imagine. So I wouldn't use it personally. Especially since you can't now use the excuse that it never even occurred to you!

Alan would never, ever have occurred to me. I honestly think in most cases if it wasn't that it would be something else (rhymes with something, sounds like a celebrity name, chat/posh). Don't think you can avoid them all to be honest.

Lana is tricker than Alan as ham said, it's the backwards tbh and that might ring a bell more with people. Still wouldn't put me off if I loved it.

TBH, I never noticed the Alan connection until my Dad mentioned it. I said if I had a girl, I wanted to call her Alana after him and he begged me not to.
