Matthew or Finlay??

Already have a DS with quite a traditional name. Am 32 weeks pregnant with DC2 and we can't agree on a boys name! I like Finlay, DH likes Matthew. Opinions please?

Both nice but Finlay is a bit trendy. Matthew is more classic and I prefer it for that reason.

Pancakeflipper · 19/01/2013 00:07

Matthew.

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 19/01/2013 00:12

Matthew (disclaimer I am very bias because ds is called Matthew)

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/01/2013 00:12

Matthew.

Matthew. Classic and timeless.

onyx72 · 19/01/2013 00:20

Matthew. It's timeless and my DS's name.

Ham69 · 19/01/2013 00:54

Matthew's my evil twin brother's name- I'd go for Finlay!

ZooAnimals · 19/01/2013 06:01

I like both. I actually slightly prefer Finlay, but because it's sooo popular I'd probably go with Matthew.

DessieLou · 19/01/2013 06:06

I concur. Matthew is classic & timeless, Finley is nice but a bit trendy for my liking. :-)

coffeeandcream · 19/01/2013 06:16

Oooh, I didn't realise Flinlay / Finley was considered trendy! It's my five week old DSs name!

Hoviscat · 19/01/2013 06:19

I like both....in fact my 2yo is Finley Matthew! Grin

exoticfruits · 19/01/2013 06:21

legallyblond · 19/01/2013 07:35

Matthew!

meditrina · 19/01/2013 07:37

Matthew

weegiemum · 19/01/2013 07:39

Matthew was our boy choice for dc1 (girl!)

We went off it, dc2 is Aidan

Was our boy choice for dc3 (girl!)

I prefer Finlay, only I'd spell it Findlay. Didn't know it was considered trendy though, round here every 3rd baby boy is called Callum and every other 3rd is Dylan!

chubbychipmonk · 19/01/2013 22:38

I wouldn't have said Finlay was trendy either, I've always just really liked the name. My only issue with it is that at least there's only 1 way to spell Matthew however Finlay's name is inevitably going to be spelt Finlay, Findlay, Finley, Findley . . .will he spend his whole life with his name spelt wrong??!

Love it Hoviscat!

I agree with others Matthew is classic and timeless whereas Finlay has become an 'in' name lately, but that is often why people become aware of a name and start to like it.
When we gave our 20yo son the name Oliver it quite unusual. When I had my youngest son 16 years ago there were hardly any Oscars, Noahs or indeed Finlays (only know one 16 yo Finlay) but now they're all very popular.

Bowlersarm · 19/01/2013 23:00

Matthew

thehairybabysmum · 19/01/2013 23:05

I have a Finlay so am biased!! Haven't met another one at nursery or now school. Just go with which you like best; its irrelevant what other people's kids are called!

chubbychipmonk · 19/01/2013 23:12

Thehairy, do you find people spell his name wrong?
