Jude or Gabriel?

Our ds is due in 5 weeks and these are currently the two contenders.

I love Jude, dp likes it, but doesn't like the thought that he might get called Judy.

Dp's choice is Gabriel, shortened to Gabe. I like it, but still am not convinced it's right.

So, what's the general consensus on those names? Or any other suggestions?

I have a DS (3) called Jude but he's never been called Judy - mainly he's The Dude or Doodles if he's feeling cuddly

Love both (no help!).

I love Jude, btw and have not regretted the choice.

I like both equally and doubt if Judy would be a problem [not a common name now] no more likely than Angel for Gabriel :)

Gabriel is much nicer. I cannot bear Jude.It has a horrid sound imho.

Gabe isn't at all nice though.Gabriel is too lovely to be shortened.

Prefer Gabriel.
The only Jude I know personally is female so that would put me off using it for a boy.

These are both my top names if we have a boy Obvs I like them both but leaning towards Jude lately.
I like Gabe as a nn but have mild concerns about him being called 'Gay'
I think either choice will be a good choice, though.

LittleCherub, I love Joel from your suggestions but dp's not keen.

I always think of Jude as a girl's name.

Jude is most definitey a boys name hebrew roots, related to Judah, judith and hence Judy do come from the same roots though, to my mind Judy ias a girl Jude is a boy, like all the above names not so keen on gabriel though

Both heavenly. If it were me I'd go for Gabriel nn Gabe but Jude is also gorgeous.

I prefer Jude, but that's probably because I have a little 9 month old Jude of my own. It's an absolutely beautiful name for a wee boy. :)

I also know a Jude with nicknames The Dude and Doodles! Love the name. Gabriel still sounds like a girl's name to me.

Jude for me. I have a Samuel Jude.

Both really good names IMO. Slightly prefer Gabriel.

Really dislike Gabriel - just sounds too girly for me. I'd worry he'd also get teased when he's older - too close to Gabrielle for me.
