no from me, sorry

Bluestocking · 17/01/2013 19:58

I like it!

5madthings · 17/01/2013 20:00

I like it and I know a 12yr old IRA :)

designerbaby · 17/01/2013 20:01

It's always going to be Gershwin, so it probably depends if you like the songs!?

5madthings · 17/01/2013 20:01

Oh offs bloody autocorrect! Ira!!

But you will get lots if people say about the IRA link on here.

EugenesAxe · 17/01/2013 20:02

It's the baddie gangster in Romancing the Stone isn't it? shows age if so

I hear it always with a New Yoik accent, anyway. I don't particularly like it.

ClaraBean · 17/01/2013 22:16

I love it. Gorgeous.
I wish I could use it myself, but 11 year old dd has a very similar sounding girls name.

narmada · 17/01/2013 22:24

Love it and wanted it for DS but DH he say no....

Viviennemary · 17/01/2013 22:25

I think it's awful. Like some old homesteader from a wild west novel.

TomDudgeon · 17/01/2013 22:26

It was in my list
Dh ruled it out because of the IRA

suburbophobe · 17/01/2013 22:33

Not if you live in Ireland! Hmm

Jasbro · 18/01/2013 13:45

Are you Jewish? If so, then go for it, but if not bear in mind that it does sound VERY Jewish

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/01/2013 13:49

Love it Smile

BobbiFleckmann · 18/01/2013 13:51

1930s america. love it.

BobbiFleckmann · 18/01/2013 13:52

(don't forget the less Irish republican sounding Irving... my dad's best friend was an Irving)

I like Ira. I also like Asa and it reminds me a bit of that name- no idea why!

Trazzletoes · 18/01/2013 15:04

I like Ira. I knew someone called Ira (not British) and he said he called himself by his middle name at school to avoid IRA but I don't know whether he did that pre-emptively or not.

Ughfootballseason · 18/01/2013 15:07

Call him drunken Ira Hayes....

Apart from that I've never heard of it but it's nice. The IRA connection would make it a no for me though.

Milliways · 18/01/2013 15:19

I have a female friend called Ira.

Jemimapuddleduk · 18/01/2013 15:21

I have never heard of this name but quite like it. Prefer Idris though (after the gorgeous Idris Elba- would not be brave enough to use though!)

hawkmcqueen · 18/01/2013 16:38

Straight away all I see is IRA, I am from NI though!

choccyp1g · 18/01/2013 16:42

Ughfootballboots, another Bob Dylan fan here.

I love it and didn't even think of the IRA.

ByTheWay1 · 18/01/2013 16:47

those three letters have an horrific connotation to me and many others...

JammySplodger · 18/01/2013 16:50

I thought of Romancing The Stone too, Danny DeVito shouting it from the top of a castle.

I also then thought IRA.
