When I was pregnant I didn't want to know the baby's sex but I was sure it was a boy and there was only one name in my list: Bruce. It was actually a girl and I chose her name when looked at her but Bruce is stuck in my mind. Let loose and tell me what do you think about Bruce, I never see this name anywhere on here and met only one person called Bruce.

Springsteen. I love him! But you really, really can't call a girl Bruce.

ClaimedByMe · 15/01/2013 21:51

My dad and brother are both called Bruce, so I like it :)

oopsadaisymaisy · 15/01/2013 21:54

I like it.

PPT · 15/01/2013 21:54

My dad is also called Bruce... But can't imagine a child being called it! Also associate it with Bruce Forsyth!

sweetestB · 15/01/2013 21:58

Of course I didn't call my girl Bruce!

Please....no. Smile

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 16/01/2013 09:48

Sorry, yuck. Don't like it at all.

Purplelooby · 17/01/2013 22:21

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it but DH doesn't so I'm not allowed it. This is because we fostered a cat called Bruce, but it really isn't a cat-name.

Lafaminute · 17/01/2013 22:27

BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!!! Love himit!

SunbathingintheRain · 18/01/2013 09:03

Springsteen. Great because of him!

Eskino · 18/01/2013 09:04

Hahahahaha.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 18/01/2013 09:04

No - you can't do this to a (future) wee baby - grossly unfair!

BonnieWeeJeannieMcCall · 18/01/2013 09:19

I know a woman called Bruce! She's in her nineties. Maybe it was an acceptable name for women then.

It was also my grandmother's middle name, as it was her mother's maiden name.

It's DS2s middle name too, but more to continue using the family surname than as a first name IYSWIM.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 18/01/2013 16:03

Makes me think of a Rottweiler I "know". fab dog, such a character Smile Which I'm guessing you might not want to hear.

Also reminds me of one of my favourite childhood books: Matilda. Remember the parrt when that fat kid had to eat an entire (massive) chocolate cake? He was called Bruce Smile

Lafaminute · 18/01/2013 17:32

What about Bruna?? Italian girls name

hawkmcqueen · 18/01/2013 17:45

Bruce? Yes, Bruce? Where's Sheila, Bruce? (add Australian accent.)
Am I the only one who sees it as a name attributed to the stereotypical Australian man? Maybe that association comes from Crocodile Dundee!?

therugratref · 18/01/2013 17:49

Grew up in Oz in the 70's/80's. I knew a lot of Bruce's. Grin

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 18/01/2013 17:54

Don't like it at all, what about Bryce?

kiwigirl42 · 18/01/2013 17:58

wonderful name. We had a hamster named Bruce. He was the man. But I grew up in NZ and knew lots of Ba - rooooses

Katydive · 18/01/2013 18:21

You cannot fail to mention 'Bruce' in an Ozzie accent a la Bruce the shark from finding Nemo.

usualsuspect · 18/01/2013 18:22

I know a very cool teenager called Bruce.

I sort of like it.

EverythingsNotRosie · 18/01/2013 18:26

Bruce is the name of my elderly (and slightly peculiar) neighbour. And one of DD's happyland people! Please don't...

sweetestB · 18/01/2013 20:01

I'm not pregnant nor ttc, just curious to know people's opinions as I'm obsessed with this name for some reason. I wasn't aware of the popularity of this name down under but I'm not from the UK or an English speaking country so this might explain. I agree Bruce doesn't suit a baby at all, but makes an awesome name for a cool/nice strong minded teenage boy, and in my view a sexy, strong, outgoing, honest man....
But for a baby or even a toddler/infant sounds full on and weird. Oh, and suit pets very well to for some reason...
